Respect,

     How is Mr. Respect  doing?

He is doing better @Writer with Flair , thanks for asking.

First 2 days...hey, not so bad!  Then that nerve block they injected during surgery wore off...whooo boy!

Had some issues w/ meds. making him sick, but we got that changed.

He is going to therapy and doing well, doing his therapy at home and using his machines.

When he is not walking he must wear an ice machine on his knee and circulation pads on both legs to prevent blood clogs.

Only problem is, our fridge icer can't keep up with the demand!  LOL

I have had to go buy ice!

@RespectLife

Did they not suggest he rent the ice machine for home?  Everyone I know who has had some sort of joint surgery and needed ice has rented the machine.  THen you only need to put water in it vs ice.

After 1,000 days in a  Pennsylvania animal shelter, Bentley the bulldog finally gets happily adopted.

Heartwarming story, if you love dogs.

Hello Ladies!

It is late; almost Sunday morning for our east coast girls.   Just missing you all and wish we lived closer together.  I think all of us needs a group hug.   Makes me think, what are some of your powerful "chick" flicks that shows the power of women?   I think of Steel Magnolias, and First Wives Club.   I have always told our daughters that women need women in their lives.   Thank you all for being in mine!  Heart

Mustang,

Three oldies but goodies are:

  1. "Now, Voyager"

  2. "The Women" (the original one from the forties and the newer one with Meg Ryan)

  3. "A Letter to Three Wives."

I think that "Dear Eleanor," "Something's Gotta Give," and "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" are excellent, as well.

On a lighter note, "Isn't It Romantic" with Rebel Wilson is a hoot.

Thanks @Writer with Flair

I have not seen those movies so will have to look for them-something good to look forward to over the cold, dark winter!   How is Mr. Writer doing as well as yourself?

Greetings, Mustang,

We both are fine.  Thanks for asking.     I hope you and yours are doing well.  How is your grandson doing?

I had some additional movies that came to mind after you read my initial post.  I revised it to include these other movies:

Mustang,

Three oldies but goodies are:

  1. "Now, Voyager"

  2. "The Women" (the original one from the forties, although I also like the newer one with Meg Ryan and Annette Benning)

  3. "A Letter to Three Wives."

I think that "Dear Eleanor," "Something's Gotta Give," and "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day" are excellent, as well.

Mustang,

While we are on the subject of strong women in movies, I also love "The Miracle Worker" (with Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke), "Mildred Pierce,"  (Joan Crawford is definitely a strong woman in that one, with the Industrial Strength shoulder pads to prove it!) "Gypsy," and "All About Eve."

My mother had rather ecclectic tastes.  She loved Vivian Leigh in  "Gone with the Wind" and the animated feature, "Shrek," voiced by Mike Meyers of SNL.

Mom liked the Shrek character so much that I ordered Shrek bithday cakes from two different bakeries for her 90th birthday party.  I think having not one but TWO SHREK BIRTHDAY CAKES surprised my sister who probably thought a cake with pastel roses would have been more "refined."  Phooey!  Shrek was more fun

Dear tiny 2,

You have been on my mind and in my prayers.  I know these days must be so, so difficult.  Please know that we all are standing with you.

When Mustang asked for suggestions for movies about strong women, as I mentioned, "Dear Eleanor" came to mind.  I don't know if you have seen that movie.  In this coming of age story set in 1962.  Marilyn Monroe had just died and the Cuban Missle Crisis was looming.

Ellie, the lead teenage character, ends up taking a cross-country road trip in a stolen convertible with her best friend, Maxine ("Max the Wax"). They want to visit Eleanor Roosevelt so Ellie can deliver a speech that her mother was to give when Mrs. Roosevelt came to their small town.  (Tragically, her mother died before she could give the speech.)

Ellie and Max have a lot of adventures after they leave their homes in the boring, rural area where the main business is growing pumpkins.  They meet a dashing young man, encourage people along the way, get arrested, and even assist a convict who recently escaped from Alcatraz.  The convict returns the favor by helping them get out of jail by pretending to be their father (by wearing a Rhett Butler costume and pulling off a pretty good southern accent).

After hearing about your trip to New York as a teenager, this movie made me think of you and your adventures.  I think you might like it.  It's funny and quirky and touching all at the same time.

So I decided to run to Target to get their teeny tiny Christmas ornaments to go on my teeny tiny Christmas tree and once again I am reminded that I need to subscribe to their weekly ad as that place is just a pleasure to shop at.  Clean, organized, nice items and some very good sales.

On my way to finding the Christmas Shop (which of course was in the total opposite direction I was heading in) they have a whole shelf of Dinner for Dummies Thanksgiving entrees and sides including a nice little turkey roulade and yukon gold garlic mashed potatoes.  Stuffing, carrots, sweet potatoes, lots of yum in that case!

Grabbed my container of ornaments ($3 for like at least a dozen), a sleeve of green ornament hooks ($1) but they also had lovely/fancy hooks too and then a string of what they call "fairy lights" (I disagree but at least they work) plus I didn't want to drive around and spend $8 on gas to save $1 from a different store . . . hee!

Hope you all are having a good start to your week my friends.  Today is taquito day at casa mtc . . . yum!
