Back in my computer career days, I did a lot of business with Best Buy's Computer Department.  They had some pretty knowledgeable people in the era when computers were a hobbyist item instead of a commodity item.  I was in there (quite) a while back (now a totally foreign landscape) and out of curiosity asked one of the young men what "Wi-Fi" was the short term for.  He didn't know it "stood for" anything.  (For the record, it's "Wireless Fidelity.")

I marvel at the fact that technology devoted years to developing exquisite sound and color reproduction for ultra-wide screen theater and television screens, and people now want to watch movies on palm-size cell phones.

I don't FEEL old, I just AM old!

Ok, sorta on the same note...

I have no idea what "hashtag" is. I mean I get it is a symbol & all but what does it really mean????

Is it just a symbol to designate something??? Like "#KitchenettesareHOT"!!!!!!

DD rolled her eyes when I mentioned it LOL!

I'm with you Honeybit, I AM old!!!

Thanks for the link -- I'm going to order a backup (in case the rust ever wins).

I like the idea of the battery-powered one, too, although I REALLY don't want anything else that requires batteries.  I remember when C cells and D cells were known as "flashlight batteries" because that's the only thing they were used for.  Now there are more kinds of batteries than there are lightbulbs.  [Anyone have an application handy for membership in the Luddite Society?]

Whatever you do, don't ask for "transistor batteries"

@ChiliPepper

I'm not a resident of the TwitterVerse (that is, Twitter Universe), but what I THINK is that the #, pronounced (for reasons known only to the gods of the TwitterVerse) as "Hashtag" is something like a subject line which enables you to find or link to other posts on the topic presently inflaming your imagination.

It also seems to serve as a sort of imaginary bumper sticker to reinforce the statement of your opinion on something -- hence the use of phrases like "hashtag I'm ticked off" used increasingly in verbal conversations.

See also the term "Mic Drop" (as in "microphone") -- a gesture of emphasis sometimes accompanied by the verbal "Boom!" -- which I had to look up after a newsclip showed Prince Harry and his Royal Grandmother making the "drop" gesture.

All has passed from the realm of Pop Culture to what passes for Culture.  Again, SIGH.

At least I feel warm and safe here in my tar pit!
