Writer,

You dear person! I'm so sorry these storms have not left your area but I am praying that you and yours, and all in the storms' path remain safe. I am sure you have called to mind Matthew 8:23-27. Peace, be still to the storms.

Since I don't know where you live, I am going to ask if these storms are infrequent to your area or do you endure them on a regular basis like we do here? If not, please ask any questions you need to ready yourself for future storms. If you are as used to them as you can be (as we are), then I know you know how to prepare. I am 58 and still can get un-nerved when the tornado and severe weather sirens sound off. I more than understand what you may be feeling. Please try to rest peacefully knowing Who is in charge of those storms and that His mighty hand will hold you all. I may never meet you here on this earth but do plan on meeting some day in the Promised Land!

Keep us informed!

Dear Mustang66lady,

We did have heavy rain and lightning in the wee hours of the morning--but no tornadoes--thank the Lord!. They are now saying there is a slight chance tonight of severe weather but a stronger one for tomorrow. I am from another part of the country where we never had any tornadoes until I was an adult--and then, infrequently. I would appreciate and welcome any recommendations you would care to share. Unfortunately, because of soil conditions in our area, people do not have basements in their houses. We do know to go into an interior closet or bathroom and we keep bottled water, flashlights, etc.

Hi Writer,

I'm so happy that you made it thru the night safely. I grew up in the St. Louis area and never had a basement. My parents never showed fear of storms and while I am not as strong as they were, I am much better than my East coast raised husband!

Sounds like you have things under control. All I can add is to try to have a battery operated radio for communication if disaster strikes, battery operated candles are a God send, too. Bottled water is a good idea but if a tornado does strike, it may be swept away. Keeping a blanket or tarp near where you take shelter may be a good idea. Pull it over your head to help from taking a direct hit from flying debris. Getting down in a bathtub and cover with that blanket or tarp will help. When you first get warnings of storms and potential tornadoes in your area, close your curtains and lower any blinds you have to lessen the flying glass that can occur. Nothing you own is worth your life so don't take risks. If you have some warning, put your cell phone and handbag with your driver's license, credit cards, etc in your "safe place." One less thing you will have to grab in case of disaster. It's "funny" but if you have never lived thru the storms/tornadoes, you have no idea how fickle they can be. Literally a house can be destroyed and yet a plastic garbage can will be able to stand next to it, undisturbed. I have to say that I have stood outside and watched funnel clouds touch down and still can barely motivate myself to take cover; it is like watching the fury of God. I can't explain it; it is not like any other storm-the power is hypnotizing. And it is humbling.

Well my friend, will be praying for another good report from you soon. We are suppose to get rain tomorrow but no storms that I am aware of.....yet. Stay in touch if you are able; if not, let us know as soon as you can. I know Who is watching over you-so do you.

Dear Mustang66Lady,

Thanks for all those tips and words of encouragement. Wow! You actually saw funnel clouds. That must have been something.

We had some torrential rain this morning, but that seems to have slowed down. I just watched the weather report on the midday news and there still is a risk of severe weather for this afternoon and evening, so I still would appreciate your prayers. I am glad that severe weather is not in the part of the country where you live.

Have a good afternoon and thanks again for everything.

Good evening Kitchenettes,

It is late and I am extremely tired but wanted to say hello and hope everyone is safe, warm, and ready for a good nights' sleep.

Writer,

Yes, I have seen funnel clouds as well as storm walls; the movies do not do them justice. You know how you will see home photography of people standing out in these storms taking photos and videos-it is a surreal experience. It is literally like watching a train wreck-you want to look away and just can't. But I have to say the scariest thing I saw was several years ago when a wind shear came thru. I had just watered the flowers (it was mid to late July which is like living in a humid oven turned to broil here in St. Louis). I had decided I wanted a fountain soda, which I believe is totally addicting. I jumped in my car and drove about a 1/2 mile from the house and noticed bad looking storm clouds to the northwest of me. I went another block and got my drink and headed home. This took approx. 5 minutes. As I got to the 4 way stop where I had noticed the storm clouds, they were so much different than they had been just 5 minutes earlier. I then stomped on my gas pedal to get home; I knew something bad was coming and my two dogs were still outside. I hardly got home, got the dogs inside and we were on the stairwell going down to the basement when it hit. The clouds obscured the last of the evening sun and as the storm ended, no one had power, trees and branches were everywhere. When the morning sun finally came, there was total devastation for miles and miles. The weather people couldn't decide if we had had several tornadoes or a wind shear. 24 hours later, they decided because of the destruction, it had been a wind shear. We were without power for a week. We had a Bradford pear tree in our back yard and it literally shot out of the ground like a bottle rocket. Several other mature trees had been snapped in half like twigs. The destruction was unbelievable. We lived like gypsy's for days staying in any hotel we could get reservations in because there were so many people in the St. Louis area that were with out power and homes that everyone was trying to find shelter and of course, many hotels were without power as well. I do respect the potential power of these storms. Now we are going to pray you thru the storms still expected in your area and while you may not get away unscathed, we want you to remain safe and sound none the less. Things can be replaced; people cannot. So not only will I go to bed after saying prayers for our Respect, will also include you for your safety as well as all in the path of the storms headed your way. And again, let us know the outcome as soon as you are able.

Hey Chili,

Have a good weekend and hope you and yours are safe and sound and able to enjoy a nice spring weekend.

Respect,

What can I say? We are here when you are ready and have time. Meanwhile, you and your Mom are in our prayers.

Dear Mustang 66Lady,

Wow! What a story. Thank the Lord you and your family and your dogs survived that wind shear!

There were some tornadoes spotted to the west of us, but I am not sure about the damage. We'll find out in the morning.

I am relieved to report that the storm has passed and all is well. We'll get out and look at the house and yard in the morning when it is light. Thanks so very much for your prayers.

Things were much worse to the north, east, west, and south of us. For a awhile, it looked like we were a little pond of green (no rain) in the midst of red, yellow, and purple on the weather radar map on television. We eventually did get some heavy rain, wind, and lightning, but not as bad as other areas near us did. Some wind gusts to the west and south of us were over 90 mph!

There is the possibility of more severe weather Sunday night and Monday. We've already started praying about that.

Thank you so much for your prayers. We, too are continuing to remember Respect Life and her dear mother in our prayers.

Good night,

Writer with Flair
