Thanks so much momtochloe! I bet that is it. It would be so delish! Between us all, maybe we CAN use up that turmeric bottle!!

I probably had ONE recipe that called for it...I have been known to buy an ingredient trying to stay 'true' to the recipe. I have got to look for subs first when I am missing one spice!! Would save myself some money and PANTRY SPACE!!

When I receive an email about the next shipping deal at The Spice House, I will be sure to post it for everyone.

Ya, know...Chili...I should have looked at the tubes of Tom paste I have purchased in the past. I too wonder if it has 'stuff' in it! I was just so thrilled to find it in a tube, I didn't even look. The tube is so convenient for putting a squirt into a dish as opposed to opening even a small can. You do refrig the tube after opening, so I wonder what is really in it. I have purchased Amore at Wegman's and according to their Website, the ingred. are tomatoes and salt. Sounds okay?

I have to check the ingredients of the Tomato Powder...the website doesn't say what is in it.

Respect, yep, I know everything has preservative & all but we try to cut back where we can don't we?

I needed some tomato paste the other night & just took one of my "tomato paste balls" out of the freezer & plopped it right in.

I still like the idea of your tomato powder best though. My thought is that it is sort of like a "dried" tomato paste but that is just my guess. Please let us know if there are any spices in it.

I do what you do though - I make a new recipe "authentic" the first time - follow it pretty close to exact - which includes all the spices. Then the next time I fiddle with it my way. I am trying to not buy more stuff & make due with what I have but its tough with a "key" ingredient.

Our local news has a cooking segment that is on while I'm getting ready for work. The dish he was making had turmeric in it (funny how that word just pops out now amongst all the other words LOL). I didn't catch it all 'cause I was in a hurry but I'll have to research it. I'll post it if it sounds like anything yummy.

Good Afternoon Kitchenettes, just a quick note - busy, busy today. I heard on the news this morning that Kraft is changing their mac & cheese formula to make it somewhat healthier I believe. They are taking out some of the dyes & supposedly using TURMERIC to color it orangey-yellow!

There ya go Respect!

All Dear Kitchenttes,

Please keep us in your prayers. It looks like we may be getting some severe weather Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

I am recovering from from a respiratory thing and feeling a little puny today while I try to catch up with laundry, etc.

I always enjoy reading your posts.

All the best,

Writer with Flair

Respect, I saw tomato powder in the Penzy's or Spice House catalog I think. It sounded intriguing.

Is that where you got it? Do you like it & use it a lot?

I got it at the Spice House and used 1/2 bottle in a month already! I reordered a second bottle when the Spice House had the last free shipping promo as a back up.

Since I am Italian and make a lot of 'red' dishes....I have used it all the time. I never seem to have a tube/small can of tomato paste...or tiny can of tomato sauce in the pantry when I need it. This powder gives a wonderful tomato flavor to all my concoctions! I have sprinkled a way!!

I used it in my last batch of spag sauce. It helped cut down on the acidity of the other tomato products. I didn't have to add any sugar.

It does have to be refrigerated after opening.

Thank you, RespectLife for recommending the tomato powder. It really irritates me to be wasteful. This sounds like a great solution!

Writer, sorry you still aren't feeling better - that kind of thing sure can hang around. I wish I was near you - I'd help you with your laundry. Laundry is actually one chore I don't mind doing. Weird huh? I'll keep you in my thoughts & prayers - especially the next few days. I hope the storms turn & miss you.

ChiliPepper,

You are so sweet and kind. I surely appreciate your thoughts and prayers (and offer to help with the laundry!). My DH volunteered to change bed linens and help with the remainder of the laundry. I'll do some Bible study and head off to bed.

Thanks again for your support.

I don't mind laundry chores either, and my Bible Study is all done, so I could help, too!
