Thanks Respect, no, not feeling bad - we just like soup! Thanks though. I hope your hubby feels better soon.

Yep, I tried the turmeric on my hair like soonersis suggested but I didn't really have time to leave it on there so I didn't notice a difference. I'll have to make a paste & leave it on for a bit. I better do it on a day off just in case my head turns orange! Geeeeez, the things we won't do to use that bottle up huh?

Next thing you know we'll be tie-dying t-shirts with it or something LOL!

thanks Mustang66lady!! Lucky you - no Kroger. That's about all we have here. They have the grocery monopoly and they know it. We beg for a Publix or Trader Joes. I don't shop at Walmart but our Targets do have some pretty good deals and are expanding their food offerings.

Hi Respect,

It's the middle of the night and I can't sleep. Was busy all day and didn't log on and am surprised myself at how this thread had gotten "new life" by everyone who is trying this recipe. Glad that everyone seems to find some comfort in this simple yet tasty soup and the suggestions on what they have added to it are great. Sesame oil is a wonderful thing, isn't it? Hope your DH gets to feeling better soon. {#emotions_dlg.sad}

Hi ChiliPepper,

Have been wondering if you were ok since we haven't heard from you lately. I'm sorry it is still so cold where you are at. It was in the mid 70's here today but by Friday the high will only be in the mid 50's. We are to get storms off and on Thursday into Friday morning which will cool us off but not to the temps you are having. You sound like me; I often make chicken vegetable soup to "clean out" what I may have in the freezer. A little leftover frozen peas or corn or whatever that may not be enough for a side dish to a meal. I always keep some rotisserie chicken in the freezer already shredded and often use it for this. Wish we could sent you some warmer weather where ever you are.

I guess I missed the turmeric thread but you have my attention! Just what all are you all doing with that spice? {#emotions_dlg.scared}

DeDe56,

I had to laugh when you said "lucky you - no Kroger!" My mother was never a fan of Kroger! They left the St. Louis area years ago and I never really did shop there so don't remember much about them. There are still some in IL, just not in the St. Louis area that I am aware of. My favorite store was the Piggly Wiggly but think that was because I always associated it with my Grandma. We don't have those here either but she lived deeper in Southern IL and shopped there and I got to go with her once in awhile when we visited her. The name always made me laugh! We don't have Publix here either and have one Trader Joes that I am aware of but is quite some distance from where I live. I don't care for Walmart at all but do go there on occasion because it is practically in the backyard. Target is just inconvenient for me to go to on a routine basis but when I do go, their grocery section has always been nice. Hope you have nice spring weather where you live and a very blessed holiday weekend ahead of you. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Yikes, Mustang...you certainly were the early bird this AM. Sorry you couldn't sleep. Feeling okay? Too much on your mind? The latter always robs me of my sleep! I can turn off the lights but I can't turn off the racking thoughts zooming through my head!

Hi Respect,

I suspect I couldn't sleep for several reasons. I need to have carpal tunnel surgery and keep delaying that; as a result, even though I sleep in a hand splint, sometimes I get terrific pain that wakes me up. I also have a bad knee (yes, I am falling apart!) so when my arm/hand pain woke me last night, my knee was hurting also. I decided to get up so I could let DH sleep as he is recovering from strep throat, and I started researching recipes that I will be using for the holiday. Before I knew it, it was 4:45 a.m. which is a half hour before I usually get up. Now I can't seem to get myself motivated to concentrate long enough on any one project that I have gotten started. Guess I better focus and get busy again! And I know what you mean by having too much on my mind. That usually keeps me from falling asleep which was not the problem last night. I think I had about 2 1/2 hours of sleep before the pain woke me. Lucky for me, I guess, is that I don't seem to require a tremendous amount of sleep but am trying to teach myself to sleep longer because I believe it is healthier than what I usually sleep too. Now, I am going to finish something! Have a good day.!

Hi Mustang, thanks for the thoughts! My soup was good - especially since it is still cold here. We are supposed to warm up for 2 days & then back to cold again but that's ok. At least the major snow & ice storms are over & Spring is right around the corner. It's just a looooong corner in this neck of the woods.

I like your idea of keeping a shredded rotisserie chicken in the freezer. I don't know what they do to those but they are so good - better than mine LOL!

Well, Respect & I are on a mission to use our turmeric but it is a slow process. 1/8th teaspoon at a time!

I think this thread turned into a way to not only talk about soup (YUM) but to say "hello" now & then. It may just turn into a perpetual one like the Fiesta-ware thread LOL!

Hi ChiliPepper,

Glad to know you are holding up thru the last sting of winter in your area. We are getting those spring rains and storms today but no mention of tornado conditions. We love chicken vegetable soup too, and will have to add the sesame oil the next time I make it.

We like the rotisserie chicken from SAM's or Walmart. I usually will get one, debone it and freeze it. I take the carcass, skin and any drippings and boil them in water with onion, carrots, celery with leaves, bay leaves, and a good dose of peppercorns. Once it comes to a boil, I turn it down and just let it simmer all day. Then strain it and measure out and freeze the stock. I get a lot of mileage from that chicken! I like having that chicken in the freezer and can make so many quick meals from it-chicken tacos or enchiladas or burritos, add it to salad or make chicken salad, soups, casseroles-well you get the idea. Having that chicken in the freezer is like money in the bank or at least in the cookie jar to me!

Yes, this thread has turned into not just a soup recipe and the creative spin each cook seems to put on it, but a way to keep up with each other. Years ago a poster, Lavendarsage, who was not only an excellent cook and photographer who posted recipes she had made with a photo of the finished dish, used to open a monthly thread that included a recipe of a dessert. As long as everyone was cordial and we posted a recipe now and then, the powers that be didn't seem to mind. Since everyone seems to be discovering a different spin on this soup and posts that for everyone else's benefit, I don't think they mind we visit a bit, too. I just keep getting amazed at how in the box I think and love the different ways people are changing up this recipe. Thanks everyone!

I put a chicken on my shopping list Mustang. Maybe I'll get two - one to eat & one to freeze like you suggested. I'm all for quick meals during the week. Rice, vegies & the shredded chicken make a tasty, quick meal.

I have got to get to Sam's. They have the best rot. chix! (hee, hee...rot. chix. Rotisserie is just too big of a pain to type!)

Wegman's has pigeons...I swear. Like a SQUAB! Most puny rot. chix I have seen, and they are $1 more than Sam's! But Wegman's is 3 mins from me. Sam's just moved to the busiest retail stretch in Niagara Falls! Our company did the site work for the relocation but somewhere along the line, my Princess Parking Pass got lost! I don't know what happened...I earned it just for all the extra paperwork required for that job! It is a MOB scene in that plaza as it lures TONS of Canadian shoppers since it is across from Prime Outlets. It is torture to go there. I know...DH would LOVE to go for me!!

I never thought to freeze them! I got a free 'shrinkwrapper'. Now I can freeze anything! I can buy several and freeze them. Great idea, mustang!

Lavendarsage is missed! I was in total awe when I first came here at her pics and recipes!

Yep, I wasn't too sure how to spell it either! Thank goodness for spell check huh?

Where did you ever get a free "shrink wrapper"? I have often thought of getting one but I haven't taken the plunge.

I wonder if Lavender's recipes are still here in history?
