I finally made this last night. So easy! I will be making it again. I used vegetarian potstickers (you can get them with chicken, shrimp, pork, etc. as well) and added some additional spices: ginger, turmeric, and a little bit of cayenne. I also added fresh basil. Very good!

Hello Respect!

All I can tell you is what another contractor told me when we first moved into this house 11 years ago. He had a younger man with him and he told his younger colleague that you can tell when a house is a home when you can smell food has been cooked there! I always remembered that and generally, I found him to be correct. I think we cook for those we love and that love creates a home. I don't know, maybe I am just waxing poetic but I'm not always so much in a rush to get cooking smells out of my house. I wash the dishes right away and wipe down the counters and table, take out the trash, and maybe even crack open a window for a few minutes even when cold, but if we had a good time while eating that meal, the smell remaining just doesn't bother me anymore. I understand it might if someone was ill or maybe my senses are just not that offended easily but I love it when my house smells like my Mom's or Grandmother's did when they cooked. Hope my kids and grandchild associate those smells and good feelings with good times spent with us.

I have an old crockpot potpourri crock they sold back in the 80's or 90's that still works. It originally was suppose to be for liquid potpourri but I have burned the wax melts in it as well. I haven't had good luck finding scents that I like in those so much. I recently bought a candle warmer (looks kind of like a warmer you would keep your coffee cup on at your desk). Plan on trying that this summer when it is too hot to burn candles. I bought this at Walmart, too. I know I won't be able to burn the candle once I use this as the wax melts and messes up the placement of the wick, but think it will work just fine. You may want to consider one of these if you cannot find wax melt scents you like.

Vamp,

So glad you got to try the soup and sounds like you made it your own! It's amazing how changing just a few ingredients doesn't change the fact this soup is good. Hope you have a blessed holiday weekend!

I used to have one of those pots too! Wonder what I did w/ it...I used to boil these little beads I think!

I love most the scents of cooking...but fish, garlic & sauerkraut are a bit of a slap in the face when I enter! I put garlic in everything so you'd think I would be used to it! No vampire will get w/in a hundred yards of me with all the garlic I consume!

I made this tonight and it was delicious! Only thing I added was a Knorr chicken bouillon cube. I used Kroger brand stir fry veggies and picked out the broccoli. Used the Ling Ling brand of chicken potstickers. Costco sells a big bag but Kroger sells the smaller bags. This would be so good if you had a cold or congestion. Thanks for sharing!

DeDe56 - Hello!

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on this recipe! It definitely lends itself to personalization to what you have available or prefer and still maintain the basic flavor. We do not have Kroger stores in the St. Louis area any more. Have no idea why they left the area, and I only know of one Costco which is a distance from where I live. You sound like me; I also pick the broccoli out of the frozen mix because I don't want that in soup. If you are up for it and have it available, you may want to try making your own fresh mix- there is a multitude of good suggestions thru out this thread if you are interested. And hope you didn't have a cold when you made this but yes, you are right, it would be perfect for someone on the mend! Have a blessed weekend. Smile

Well, I made regular chicken noodle soup the other day trying to use up some things I had on hand in the cupboards & freezer.

It was 22 degrees here this morning (ugh!!!) so I may have to make THIS soup again when that is gone to stay warm.

No snow & no rain so I guess that's ok. Have a great day Ladies & Guys!

I think it is the Sesame Oil that has me hooked. I recently made UnPotsticker chicken soup since I was out of them...but used the sesame oil and it is now my favorite thing to add to anything chickeny! (is that a word?)

Good idea Respect! I'm having leftover chicken noodle soup tonight for dinner (unless I get a better offer of course!!!) so I may just do a taste test. I'll heat it up in 2 separate bowls & try it with & without sesame oil. That will be a fun experiment!

Maybe I'll try some with turmeric too! 1/16th teaspoon more gone!

LOL...I am going to snicker about turmeric now every time I see the word!

I'm so sorry you are felling bad...DH has the most awful cold too!

Yes, do a taste off and let me know which way wins!
