I don't know about pictures right now as I have to watch on my Kindle as the Explore.org site just tanks what is left of my laptop but as soon as I can snag a few (it seems to go much better very early in the morning) I will be sure to post!  Heart

I was going to ask you guys if you have ever baked your corn on the cob...and then I found a Corn on the Cob thread....this is what I posted there...

I have usually boiled my corn for 4 mins. only.  We also smoke it and/or grill it (with soaking etc etc.)

Saturday the 'Corn Stand' lady asked if I ever microwaved it or baked it.  She highly recommended both ways instead of boiling.

I baked it in the oven on a foil lined cookie sheet with the husks/silk still on.  No soaking etc...just as is!

350 degrees

She suggested 30 mins.  I like a bit more crunch and will decrease to 28 mins. or so next time.

After baking, cut the bottom end off.  The husks and silk just slide right off!  Wear a mitt though...hot!

Gracious!  Was it ever good and easy!  No butter or salt needed!!  Toss the foil in the trash and put the sheet away!

To be honest, I was very skeptical!  I come from a long line of VEGGIE BOILERS!!

But unless I am going to take the extra time to smoke it or grill it..I am BAKING from now on.

If you guys are interested, that thread had info on microwaving it too.

Respect,

I made the corn on the cob wrapped in bacon for the Fourth of July.  It turned out well, but I found the bacon too rich for my taste.

Usually, I will just boil corn on the cob on top of the stove.  I'll have to try baking it in the silks and husk.  Interesting.

Chili,

Things have settled down with Rodney.  He continues to improve.  A lot of extra help is no longer needed from friends, although I am sure that the family appreciates your continued prayers.

When I recently asked my friend about any arrests regarding what happened to Rodney, she said the police told her not to talk about it with anyone, so I have not asked her anything more about it.

Thanks so much for your concern and prayers.

Respect,

I love blueberry cornbread, but I cannot remember where I first had it.  I made a "cheaters" version myself years ago.  I bought a couple of boxes of Jiffy cornbread mix and just added some fresh blueberries to it.  It was really good.

     Thanks for the recipes.

@Writer with Flair

About cooking fresh corn in the husk in microwave........my husband and I agreed that this did NOTHING to improve the corn and was more trouble than it was worth.  Who wants to deal with all that silk once you've sat down to eat?  And who wants to let the corn cool down enough to de-husk and de-silk it at the last minute?

Boiling for a short time will remain my preferred method.  Maybe our taste buds are too old and dead to notice any harm to the flavor by cooking it the old-fashioned way.  We have also wrapped it in foil and put it on the charcoal grill, and that's easy and good, too.

Hope all Kitchenettes are doing OK..........been too busy to even boot up my computer much lately and will probably not catch up with all things I really need to get done for quite a while.

Meanwhile, my best  wishes to all!!

I just found this site linked on a friend's Facebook page (and I almost NEVER look at Facebook) and have just wasted W-A-Y too much time reading and linking to various HACKS -- from a "how to" on folding towels to nighttime leg cramps, from a "pool noodle cooler" to recipes.

Here's an example:

Fix Flat Drinks

All you want after work is a glass of sparkling wine or refreshing seltzer…but it turns out your bubbly beverages are completely flat. Don’t dump them down the drain! All you have to do is add a raisin to your bottle to regain all that fun fizz and flavor.

5-Minute Cookies

So you want cookies but you don’t have the time to MAKE cookies. No problem! Use your waffle iron and any cookie dough (homemade or store-bought) to whip up a quick batch in five minutes.

Put a dollop of cookie dough in each section of your waffle maker, press down, and five minutes later you’ll have treats that look like waffles but taste like cookies. We highly suggest topping these off with frosting or powdered sugar for good measure.

Bite-Sized Strawberry Cheesecake

Love strawberry cheesecake? Who doesn’t! But who has the time to go through all the steps to make a full cheesecake from scratch?!

To get that strawberry cheesecake flavor with minimum time and maximum health benefits, make these bite-sized cheesecakes instead. Make the filling by beating cream cheese and powdered sugar, then hollow out a fresh strawberry and stuff it with your mix! There you have it – cheesecake on-the-go.

Hot Dogs for a Crowd

For a party, cook hot dogs in the crock pot -- don’t add water. They will release moisture on their own.  Cook on low for 4 hours.  Taste like they were cooked on a roller.  (Picture showed the hog dogs standing on their ends in the crockpot.)
