Novamc,

You should write a cookbook about different slaws!  Thanks for sharing all the info.

My Mother was a transplanted Southern Girl - at least at heart.  She NEVER threw away bacon grease,  sweared lard made the best pie crust (she was correct!) and never threw away pickle juice!  I can see in my minds' eye, that jar of homemade coleslaw dressing, sitting in the refrigerator and I will tell you now, more likely than not, she use sweet pickle juice in place of vinegar in her coleslaw dressing!  Since she often used Miracle Whip; that plus the sweet pickle juice, her slaw didn't need added sugar.

Aww @mustang66lady

Thank you for sharing that!  I have sweet pickle juice!

My mom was a sweet pickle fanatic!  Before she went in the nursing home, she consumed 3-4 small jars of sweet pickles every week!

I finally got tired of going to the store so often for pickles, I bought like a dozen jars for her!  Then she fell and ended up in the nursing home.

I had to laugh cuz I don't even like sweet pickles but wasn't going to waste them.  I brought the jars home!

Awww...such nice memories of our moms....and all about pickles!  She would have gotten a kick outta this!

Dear novamc,

I agree with our friend Mustang that you should indeed write a Coleslaw Cookbook, wise lady!

For what it's worth, I have sometimes added pieces of apples and either toasted walnuts or pecans to a creamy cabbage slaw--sort of a Waldorf kinda thing going on.  It is crunchy and good.

Whenever I make a creamy (mayo-based) dressing, I always put a little sweet curry powder in it.  It gives it s little I-don't-know-what-that-flavor-is-but-it-is-good sort of touch.  My DH, who swears up and down that he does not like curry, loves it.

Thanks @Writer with Flair  !!!

I have sweet curry!!

Now an official Good Morning to everyone!

I am with @VaBelle35  is it seriously ONLY Thursday?

None the less, we will be thanful to our Father for even the slowest, most annoying weeks!  LOL

I am so sorry to see that massive tornado near Chapman but am thankful there was NO loss of life.  The destruction was immense!  The news said it was on the ground for over an hour??!!

God be with all those involved in that terrible storm and may He protect and bless those in the path of more storms this weekend.

I don't use sweet pickle juice, but I seldom make any tuna salad or potato salad  or deviled eggs without throwing a few spoonfuls of sweet pickle relish into the mix.

I remember visiting my relatives in Missouri with my two kids, just in time for my step-grandma's annual Easter Egg Hunt,  which my kids enjoyed immensely.  The hidden eggs were real hard-boiled eggs, and Nanny asked me to make deviled eggs out of them after the kids gathered them.

One of my uncles was present, as well as other relatives.  I asked what the crowd wanted me to put into the deviled eggs.  I was going for sweet pickle if it was available, but Uncle T declared they must be made with ...............DILL PICKLE RELISH????

I was horrified, but made the eggs his way, anyway.  Regardless, Easter vacation was a good time had by all, and the eggs weren't too bad after all. Smiley Happy
