What is achiote paste??

With a spice grinder, grind the annatto seeds, cumin seeds, peppercorns, allspice berries, and cloves to a fine powder. In a blender or food processor, mix the ground spices, habanero peppers, orange juice, vinegar, garlic, and salt. Blend until smooth.

Substitution for Achiote Paste:

With a description of the flavor, earthy, combined with the main liquid ingredient, vinegar, I felt pretty confident that I could come up with a suitable addition to the marinade that was true to the original recipe and cut some of the power of the chipotles.

I’ve come to think of cumin as my go to spice these days, for everything from Indian, to Moroccan, to Mexican, and I knew it would be a good addition here. I also threw in some garlic, almost always a good idea, and also added one diced tomato to give it a little body and compete with the chipotle and adobo. Into the blender it all went and the resulting marinade was excellent, still powerful and smoky thanks to the chipotles, but far more than just a chipotle marinade.

Plus, remember - we are NOT buying one more spice or ingredient!!!!!!!!!! They are getting so crowded they are starting to hide (sage!!!) & transform into other unnecessary things (coconut milk).

I'm happy to report that I finally won this ornament on eBay.  It's part of the Keepsake Ornament Club that you have to join to get it.  My problem with that is, I only usually like one of the ornaments, so I hate to pay for 3 of them.  Plus, people dump these on eBay, so it's really not exclusive.

I like baking themed ornaments, so this is right up my alley.  There is a whole series of these.  This is my first one.  There is also a table and a stove in the series.  I will start looking for those at a reasonable price, too.

I ended up getting this for the box price, which is fine by me.  People are listing them for $100.  Please! Anyway, this is a repaint of the 2014 version and the detail is exquisite.  I really like the repaint because it's red.  The original is a light gray/greenish color.  There is a cookie sheet in the sink, that's the silver thing sticking out.

This makes me happy

Me too!!!

Some of my favs are little cookie sheet ornaments with gingerbread guys & gals on them! Rolling pins, wooden spoons, all kinds of cute baking ornaments.

Temptations used to have a set of figural ornaments all in different cooking/baking shapes done in Temptations colors & patterns. I don't collect Temptations but they were really cute!
