HI guys, sorry for my earlier meltdown.  So many people have real problems and here's me boo-hooing about nothing . . . boo on mtc.

@ChiliPepper are you guys due for any more snow?  I hope not and you can get some rest tonight.

@mustang66lady how is your sciatica today?  How are you feeling?

@RespectLife I got those spices and I like/am intrigued by both of them.  The Za'atar is very good and I can see me using it quite a bit.  The Sumac is very interesting (tart but not quite as sharp as say lemon).  I'm going to have to look up recipes that use it.

And yet another boo on mtc as I didn't say what I was grateful for today I was pleasantly shocked and most grateful that it only took $13 to fill up a half tank of gas in my car . . . Smiley Happy

Hi Miss mustang, are you ok? Just thinking about you!

Hugs my Friend!

 Thanks Chili,

The news of the little boy lost hit msn tonight.  He was found yesterday morning about 11 a.m. CST and they did an autopsy today.  He froze to death.  I am just sick to my stomach over the whole ordeal.

I'm so sorry you got hit so hard by snow, Chili.  I have had to shovel our driveway so many times I have lost count.  Seems the snow always timed itself to fall when DH was gone.  If I never shoveled another shovel full, I would not cry.  If we lived in a retirement village where it was done for us, then maybe not so bad.  I have to admit, when our grandson got off the bus yesterday, just seeing his little innocent face and the joy those big flakes brought almost made it worth it.  That's the difference age brings i guess.  Still would stay up all night packing if DH said we are moving to Phoenix tomorrow though.......   Right now, they are predicting 8 inches Sunday night for us....... : (

I don't know if it is gloom of the season or what, but I really miss having nice neighbors.  I really appreciate each of you and what you bring to this thread.  I feel isolated in a town with neighbors so close, I could throw a rock from my window thru theirs (well if I had good aim!).

Happy Friday Everybody . . . T.G.I.F.!!!  Smiley Happy

Hope everybody is safe and warm and did't get any additional snow.  I have to go back to H&R Block at 10am and then I need to start hunting for a real accountant.

Does anybody have any fabulous Valentine's Day plans?  Heart

@momtochloe

Good morning Kitchenettes!!!

Happy, happy FANTASTIC Friday my FABULOUS FRIENDS!!!!

Super cold here, only a couple more inches of new snow at least. They are calling for sub-zero temps this weekend with wind chills to negative 40 degrees!!!!!! I didn't even think that was possible - even here.

Good luck at H & R Block mtc.

Oh, BTW, I just wanted to let you all know I have been having trouble with my modem at home, it keeps going out. They are shipping me a new one but if you don't hear from me over the weekend that's why. Hopefully, that doesn't happen. I would hate to be stranded at home all weekend without my Kitchenette friends!!!

Happy Fantastic Friday, Kitchenettes!

We got a little more snow last night but wasn't much more than a dusting in most areas.  But it is cold and will continue to get colder all day.  Our low tonight will be 7-can't wait to see what the wind does to that!

Have any of you owned Rachel Ray's moppines?   I have read mixed reviews on them, but think I would like them.  They are on 4 easy pays today.  I still think that is over priced for the item-you get two for that price.  The last time I tried to find good potholders I liked to never found any and was not happy with what I ended up with-they fell apart the second or third time I washed them!  If the moppines hold up, and truly block the heat of your vessel when you remove it from the oven, then they will be worth the money.  Any reviews from the Kitchenettes or anyone lurking here?

I don't, I saw them a couple of times when she was on Food Network & they looked pretty slick.

I have a cheaper version of K41345 towel - potholder. It works well without dragging in the food.

Gosh, I think I got it at WM.

@mustang66lady I have her moppines and they work well.  They are too big for what I need (as I just have a toaster oven) but I think you would enjoy them.

The nightmare continues at H&R Block.  Now instead of a refund I have to pay $1,100.  I am so stunned I really don't have a reaction to it but needless to say happy hour has started at casa mtc . . . Smiley Sad

@mustang66lady

I had to check QVC's website to see what a "moppine" was, but now that I know,  here's an opinion........

I own something very similar--made of quilted terrycloth. It's about 20 years old, has withstood many turns through the washer and dryer,  and serves me well just about every day in the kitchen, BUT NOT FOR THE PURPOSE THAT  ITS DESIGNERS ENVISIONED.

I agree with the negative review from one person (which appears with the moppine description) that it is awkward to use when removing  pans from the oven. It literally would hook your arms together and rob you of flexibility in handling the cookware.

I use mine every day on top of my countertop as a trivet  or "hot pad" for  just-out-of-the-oven cookware that might otherwise shatter when it hits a cool countertop or would burn the countertop's surface.

The best oven mitts I've ever owned are in use to this day.........still available at BedBathBeyond with silicone stripes that enable you to grip a pan securely.  I'll try to find a link for you and post it here.

Chili,

I don't think I have ever seen anything close to a moppine at our Walmart!  I have watched Rachel use them on her show and have put them in my Q cart many times only to remove them.  I am getting to the point of desperation I was at a couple years ago when I got the ones I am currently using.  The Q sent me an email today telling one of the items on my wish list was on easy pay and when I saw it was the moppines, I decided it was "Divine Intervention!"

mtc,

I think you are right, that might be just too much fabric to contend with using a toaster oven.  I am starting to think most folks don't cook therefore potholders are not a commodity that brings a store much revenue.  The last ones I bought were purchased from a "upper scale" grocery store in our area!

I'm sorry you are having so much problems with H&R.  They were a blessing when I went thru my divorce  - long story but after that one visit, I went back to the accountant that we had used for years.  His price was the same as H&R.  Do you have any friends in the area that could recommend someone to you?

novamc,

Thanks for your input-I trust your opinions!  Between what you said and mtc, those are the very reasons the moppines have made many, many trips to my Q cart only to be removed before I would hit the checkout button.  The only Bed, Bath and Beyond is almost an hour drive from here and I just don't ever think about going there-out of sight, out of mind I guess.  Never thought about ordering from them so will appreciate a link if you find it-at least I will have a good review and idea of something else if I am unhappy about the moppines and your find may be a good item to use with a toaster oven, too.
