Hi straykatz, right now it may rain on Halloween.  They are still being very iffy at this point.

I bought a huge bag of candy which should be more than enough.  If not, the early bird gets the worm . . . I just can't have any extra candy lying around!

It's too bad there aren't any around you Chili as it really is a fun store and they are so nice and helpful.

Many years ago they used to carry a smaller bag of fried chicken that I just loved . . . I'm still bummed they stop carrying it . . . Smiley Sad

mtc,

Had to take a quick break and saw your response-the store in Fairview Heights would be closest to me and DH works in the St. Peters, MO area.  Will have to check this place out!  Do you have to have a membership to shop there?   I know of a restaurant supply store on the way to the Penzey's we go to but can't remember the name-they require a membership like SAM's and Costco.

We are suppose to have rain Saturday but not until the afternoon/evening.  Parades are a big deal in our area and at least two of them will happen in the morning/early afternoon, but the bigger parades are scheduled for that evening.  Don't know if they will plan a rain date of Sunday or not.  We get a lot of kids because of where we live but do not have many kids in our neighborhood.  I had a very bad incident last year as well as another friend of mine being accosted at her house.  I decided for the first time in my life that we would not be passing candy out this year.  Most churches do a trunk or treat evening, as do some of the fire stations, and nursing homes.  With those and the parades, the kids have plenty of opportunity to get candy.  Still makes me very sad to have to make this decision.

@mustang66lady sorry I meant to mention it, no membership is required to shop there and they open early because they do service restaurants.

What I like about GFS sells things in family sizes.  I was in a Restaurant Depot once and almost got run over by a forklift . . . too big for mtc!

mtc,

I'm like Respect, what is a GFS store?   The cookies look amazing.  Have you had these before?  Don't know if they have one of these stores in St. Louis or not, but I know there is no store in my immediate area.  You have to remember, you live in a big city, and I live outside the largest country "town" in the U.S.A.!  If there is not a baseball game going on downtown, the sidewalks are rolled up at 5!  The big stores take awhile to migrate inland and to the middle!  We just got an IKEA earlier this month.

@mustang66lady

You are one up on us!  No IKEA near us!  And I live outside a supposed 'city'.

Hey Ladies!!! No debate for me, I fell asleep.

I'm making chicken gnocchi soup. I may just make a combo of this recipe & the chicken pesto recipe Respect is talking about.

Also, have some pork chops to do up. I think I'm gonna try Crock Potting them.

Probably try a version of Aunt Bertie's scalloped potatoes also.

Oh, & I am making David's cranberry apple sauce. I was going to do it today in the medium Crock Pot but I didn't have an orange & I didn't feel like going to the store last night in the rain & wind.

Anddddddddddd...... I have a hankering for chili!

@RespectLife

I'm coming over!  Your menu sounds delish!

@ChiliPepper

Have you already tried the chix pesto soup recipe?

David's crock pot pork chop recipe with beer and onions was really yummy.  I just over cooked my pork.

I am sorry to report we will have no rain on Halloween until very late evening.  It will be in the 50's.

Snicker....this Halloween Grinch wishes these past two days of horrid weather would have held off till the weekend!  hee, hee!

What a witch indeed I am!

@mustang66lady

I totally understand your reasons, but also please be careful and diligent on watching out for your home Sat. night.

In our area, we don't DARE not give out candy.  We, also, over the years have had terrible incidents but those that turned out their lights and didn't distribute got worse it seems!

Seriously, I live in Po-Dunk Suburbs no where near Niagara Falls or Buffalo!  You'd think we lived in Harlem!  Sometimes these 'country kids' can be just as mean/childish spirited.

Police patrol constantly yet NO ONE...including any of us residents are able to ever catch these hoodlums!  Even that dang YAPPY PUGGLE never catches them!  I think she is so tired from barking her brains out during the trick/treats....that she literally passes out after, late at night, when the damage is being done.

Our chuch does Trunk or Treat!  I think it is a wonderful, safe event for families!  We serve free hot dogs & coffee.  They decorate the cars/ppl alll cute.  They even have a giant screen TV set up and play the 'Greatest NFL Comeback in History" game...which is our beloved Bflo Bills.  The dads have loved it while the kids go to about 60 cars!  I wish I could be there...but we need to stay home.

Mustang and Respect, I am so sorry you ladies have trouble by you.  There really aren't many kids around here and I live on an odd shaped block so kids have a tendency to walk by my house.

I'm kind of Grinch about the whole thing and the weekends are the worst as our town didn't set a start time.  It may rain (they haven't decided yet and it will be colder and if we still have this wind it will be tough for the little ones to stay out very long).

I had so much leftover candy last year, I have a bowlful and like I said when it's gone, it's gone.

You know, this losing posts is getting ridiculous!  I must have "timed out" as I hit post, I was redirected to sign back in and lost my post in the process.

Chili, mtc, and Respect,

Thanks for your concern regarding Halloween in my area.  I was more concerned about my friend than myself.  I know she will pass out candy this year as her DH is superintendent of the high school district.  She had a little girl trick or treat and when Julie gave her candy, the little girl DEMANDED more!  The grandmother stepped up and told Julie in no uncertain terms that her GD was not given enough candy so Julie gave her a couple more pieces.  Then the grandmother demanded candy and started to stick her hand in the bowl!  Julie pulled the bowl away before the woman got her hand in it and told her she was old enough to drive to the store to get her own candy, then slammed the door in her face!  These people were NOT from her neighborhood.  Half of the front of Julie's house is glass-I was surprised a rock or two didn't come flying thru!  She was alone at the time-she said she didn't know what came over her to be that mouthy back and was worried until her DH got home.  Even then, she was sure some if not all of that glass would be broken!

It smells like soup in our house!  We are going to the Halloween parade down the hill from us at 7.  If we like the soup, will share the recipe with you later or tomorrow.  Have a good evening ladies!
