Question regarding pie plate

I have to bake a pie for a bake sale.  Naturally I don't want to use my good pie plate.  My question is to those who have used the disposable aluminum pie plates.  Do the pies come out just as good when baking in the aluminum as they do in a regular glass plate?

Re: Question regarding pie plate

@makena I don't think they turn out as welll...for me the crust browns too much. You can find glass pie plates at dollar tree if you want lower priced glass plate.

Re: Question regarding pie plate

I sometimes place the foil one inside a glass/ceramic one for baking, then remove it from the glass for transport.

Also, doubling those foil things (whether for pies, casseroles, lasagnas, etc) always makes them sturdier.

@faeriemoon I never thought of puttig the foil plate inside another. What a good idea!

@makena They don't want glass at a bake sale for several reasons. Go with the tin foil and try @faeriemoon's suggestion.

Re: Question regarding pie plate

I get Pyrex glass at Walmart/Target and use that and it's part of "the gift."

I just can't get a pie to bake well and even in those aluminum things.

Re: Question regarding pie plate

Set you pie to be baked inside of your glass pie plate, bake as usual, whencooled take the aluminum plate out and that way your glass plate gave it more support, and that way you don't have to take your pie plate and risk never getting it back.
