My dear aunt, who passed away last year, used to make this recipe for family when they came to visit. It came from TOH magazine.
Pull Apart Bacon Bread
12 bacon strips, diced
1 loaf (1 pound) frozen bread dough, thawed
2 T olive or vegetable oil, divided
1 cup (4 oz.) shredded mozzarella cheese
1 envelope (1 oz.) ranch salad dressing mix
In skillet, cook bacon over medium heat for 5 minutes or until partially cooked; drain on paper towels. Roll out dough to ½ inch thickness; brush with 1 T of oil. Cut into 1 inch pieces; place in a large bowl. Add the bacon, cheese, dressing mix and remaining oil; toss to coat.
Arrange pieces in a 9 x 5 inch oval on a greased baking sheet, layering as needed. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until doubled. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Cover with foil; bake 5-10 minutes longer or until golden brown.
~~My aunt told me that she would sometimes roll dough to ¼ inch thickness and cut out a circle from a glass. She fried half of the bacon fully cooked and mixed it with cooked onions and put 1 tsp of this mixture inside a circle of dough, folded over into half a circle and crimped it tightly closed and then did the rest of the bacon, that is fried for only 5 minutes on the rest, as the recipe calls for.
