Has anyone found the prime rib recipe that was talked about Sunday (yesterday) when they had the TSV prime rib roast on?  Said it would be on the website, but unable to find it.

I didn't see the show.  I'm guessing it's a David recipe?  Type recipe in the search bar here on the q website and there are recipes for all the hosts.

I saw it but couldn't pay attention at the moment. I know there was a lot of butter and garlic involved. It seemed to be a Rastellis recipe. I would try YouTube. The problem with the boneless rib roast is that they remove the fat cap, so they have to replace it with butter.

I've seen it twice but don't roast a prime on my memory and short notes.  "R" the meat guy - yes takes all the fat off the roast - slathers (sp) it completely with butter - lots of it - adds spices to the butter (pepper, thyme, etc., ) preheats oven to 500 I think - puts roast in for 15 - 25 mints and then turns the oven OFF and lets the roast sit there for 2 hours.  Then it's done!  Only way his family cooks a prime rib.  Personally, it doesn't appeal to me but he says it's the ONLY way to do it right.  (take your chances - but not for me - don't like all the butter deal)

I've tried roasting at a high temp then turning the oven off. Didn't like the taste all that much.

Instead, I lightly salt my roast, add pepper, then cover it with kosher salt mixed with water. It's the best roast I've ever had.

@Mammasita

This site was recommended to me by someone I consider to be an  expert in cooking prime rib roast.   Many  people said the site served up a lot of good information when I posted it here several years ago.

Haven't cooked a rib roast in a while, but when I do, I sometimes cut slits in the meat at top and insert pieces of garlic clove.

He said it was on the product page but it's not.

All I know is it's butter, thyme, rosemary, garlic, salt & pepper but he did not say how much of each.

Found these 2 Herb Butter recipes online that should work for 5-7 lb roast.

They both have all the ingredients they talked about on the show except the second one also has some oregano and not as much of the other ingredients.

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 7 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon pepper

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tablespoon thyme, finely chopped
  • 1 Tablespoon oregano, finely chopped
  • 1 Tablespoon rosemary, finely chopped
  • 1 Tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper

I thought he said he cooked it at 500° for 25 mins., turn off oven, don't open door for 2hrs.

We always make ours on the grill, smoker or rotisserie.
