@DiAnne I only use them warm or hot. Cold would be Yuck ! Try them in a hot potato salad. But don't use mayonaise, use a little bacon grease, and white vinegar and , a touch of salt and fresh ground pepper. Also crumbled bacon. Yum !! ![]()

My mom would occasionally use those canned potatoes when making a pork roast and when they got all brown and crispy from the pork fat, seasoning and high temp, they were actually pretty good..they are quite small, generally.

The only time I sometimes use canned potatoes is with Kielbasa, sauerkraut in the slow cooker....the flavor just isn't the same though as fresh potatoes. I like to make potato salad, so I wouldn't consider using canned potatoes for that.

Wow...this question brought back memories. In 1972 I was 6 years old when Hurricane Agnes caused the Susquehanna River to flood NE Pennsylvania. We lived a few blocks from the river and our house took on 7 feet of water on the first floor. We evacuated, and two weeks later returned home, our parents facing the damage. Our meals were provided by the local fire company. They served canned everything, soups, vegetable etc. but the one thing I will never forget and NEVER eat again are the canned potatoes. They must have had a huge donation of them because they served them every day...I wasn’t a prickly eater, but boy did I dislike them. To this day my sister and I call them “Flood Potatoes” ...oh so many years ago...

@jannabelle1 The recipe I talked about is "German Potato Salad " And that is warm, or Hot , so it taste wonderful and quick to me. As I get older quick is good for me. Times is ticking faster for me day by day. And sometimes that is the only way I will cook. Quick and easy and I can't stand for along time .Also buying potato's for us is not always a good choice, as we have two sky lights and they spoil food. And it is just the two of us. Having potato's in a can , I don't have to peel or worry as much about them spoiling. It sounbds like I'm appologising for using them, not in your best day. They are a life saver for me at times.

For me the thought of eating potatoes from a can is not at all appetizing.
Fresh is always best. and second best would be frozen potatoes.

If I tried this, my dear husband would run away from home! Potato salad is his absolute favorite and he wants NO changes

If I'm going to the trouble to make potato salad, I sure as heck will boil the potatoes myself.
