Re: Oven Fluffy Rice

[ Edited ]

The packages used to suggest first rinsing the rice a couple of times.  I'm too lazy to get up right now and look..........I believe rinsing eliminates any residual soil, micro pebbles, etc.   Isn't rice grown in ponds, in the water?  'I don't know'..............

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

"Anyway, rice cookin failure friends, we must unite! We have to end this sticky/gummy/non fluffy rice cooking funk we've been in. Report back with your progress in ending this reign of rice terror. After all, we humans have to be smarter then the lowly grain of rice. Right??"

That is so funny!  Yes, we will conquer that lowly grain of rice....or switch to pasta which I can always cook perfectly!   LOL

OK, "Rice Sistas", now I want to adapt this oven baked rice to chicken/pork fried rice (like from the mall).

I'm thinking of combining LBM's "Oven baked" & "Fried rice" recipes.

Think it can be done???

BINGO! That could be another thing I'm doing wrong. I think I washed rice 30 plus years ago (cause my mama did) and then I read somewhere you shouldn't wash it. Never questioned when, where, why, or how on the washing deal. Sometimes ya just have to marvel at your own cluelessness. Ha! But, I don't cook rice all that much so I just tolerated the gummy stuff and didn't question my technique. I like rice, but typically do potatoes more often.

whenever i make rice i always rinse well.....numerous times with both hot and cold water......at least six times. i then let it  soak in salted water for at least two hours before preparing.

Well, I sat there last night & looked at all the ingredients & the pan & the 2 recipes but my brain just couldn't comprehend. Either too tired or not enough alcohol.

Then "Project Runway" came on & I gave up.

But, I am not defeated yet LOL!!!

Holy cats @sunshine45 major kudos to you for your rice preparation!  I guess I have become so lazy (and ergo accepting of sticky rice) that I have lost my rice compass so to speak . . . I guess I really do need to go back to the basics!
