Re: My Grandmother’s Recipes

My grandmother did not have any.  We all had to sit down and write what we saw her do with the dishes we wanted the most.

I still have my handwritten notes from when I sat at her bar in the kitchen during all those holidays and Sunday family meals in the early to mid '80's.

Re: My Grandmother’s Recipes

My mother gave me her "prize winning" biscuit recipe. She never used a recipe but made her biscuits then measured back the ingredients to make me a recipe card, which looks close to the same as this one. I agree with your son, you have to physically feel the dough before knowing it's ready. After my mother's passing, I tried her recipe every single weekend for a year, never coming up with the perfectly flaky biscuits. I should've made them with her to get the feel of how they should be.

@On It.  I've noticed on all those old hand-written recipes I see, including my grandmother's,  the writing looks like it was written by the same person.   It must have been the way they taught penmanship back in "olden" days.

My grandparents provided room and board for the teacher of a single room schoolhouse. My mom said no "artsy" penmanship was allowed by that teacher. I think that is why all the recipes look the same.

Re: My Grandmother’s Recipes

While cleaning out her moms house my gf found a envelope of handwritten recipes from my MIL given to her Mom.  She gave to me and I enjoy having them, mostly are her recipes for her delicious cakes😊
