@sfnative, Oh good heavens, these things are terrible. I am so sorry. I have big sneezes too, its awful. Sometimes I can take some benadryl and it will give me some relief, but that isn't always the case. Horrible that it caused a disk to bulge. The nurse should have stayed home and if she couldn't she certainly should have been wearing a mask.
I am praying things get better for you.
My year is not off to a great start.
I honestly hope and pray things get better for both of us. And everyone else who may be hurting, whether its physaical pain or heartbreak.

@sfnative Oh my goodness!!! And I thought I had bad luck with doctors, nurses, hospitals, etc.. Obviously my luck has been nothing compared to what you have had to endure, and you are STILL sweet enough to be thinking of me and this cake recipe. What a special person you are! I hope and pray that the year 2020 will bring much health and healing to you...in any and every way possible. You quite obviously deserve it. I will be here (not every day, or maybe even every week) but I WILL be here, whenever you are well enough to feel like finding your recipe. Sending you some California ☀️! It is cold here, but it is not snowing or icy, so there's something to be said for that- says this almost 60 yr. old that's never lived outside of CA! LOL My friend in Rochester NY once said to me "oh never EVER more here...you won't make it. I mean that. Really." I think she might have been right- I'd be a human icicle! {{Gentle Hugs}}

Hi, Can hardly believe it, but finally found the recipe. Here it is. You may find the Crisco comment weird, but this recipe has been around for a while. At the time, Crisco was making a butter colored version, hence the comment to use "white" Crisco.
White Cake
Makes 2 – 8” rounds
Oven : 350F
Pans: Grease and Flour
2-1/2 cups a/p flour
1-1/2 cups cane sugar
4 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
2/3 cup white Crisco (vice the yellow variety)
1-1/4 cups whole milk (room temp)
1 tsp vanilla
2/3 cup or 4 egg whites (room temp)
Lightly spoon flour into a cup measure and level off to equal the required amount. Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Add all ingredients but egg whites together into the bowl of a stand mixer with the paddle attachment. Beat 1-1/2 minutes at medium speed.
In a separate bowl, with a hand mixer, beat the egg whites, just until a tic past soft peaks are formed.
Remove the large mixer bowl from the mixer stand. With a large spoon, add about 1-1/2 cups of whipped egg white into the mixture. With a spatula, add the egg whites into the mixture to loosen it up. Now, add the remaining egg whites and gently fold with the spatula, until all are incorporated.
Spread carefully into cake pans. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes. Time will depend upon your oven. Cool ten minutes before removing from pans.
Enjoy ~ Rebecca

Rebecca, I hope you are feeling better! I was thrilled to see you found the recipe. Not that I need anymore recipes at this point of my life.
A friend of mine has been battling cancer for five years. First the colon, then stomach and now lungs. She has horrible back pain and I took her to a pain clinic where they do some kind of procedure but have to knock her out because it's painful. The doctor said he usually only does it twice but will do three in her case. The first treatment had the same results as yours. I will be talking to her today to see if the second one got better results. Her oncologist was able to get the tissue from her original cancer surgery and said now they can analyze the tissue and pinpoint exact treatment that would be best for her. She was finding out yesterday the results of that. Praying for everyone battling pain, illness or depression.

@sfnative So nice of you to post the recipe, especially since you are battling so much pain. I hope you are getting some relief.
I love white cake, but DH is a chocolate lover...this cake will be for me, thanks!

Thank you for your recipe, my mom loves white cake and I am forwarding your recipe to her, she will love it!
I hope the epidural worked for you! I also suffer from sciatica and have had the epidural twice, it was a miracle drug for me. Each injection has lasted me about 2 years of being pain free.

I am so very sorry to hear about your friend battling cancer in three locations, followed by procedures to hopefully help things along. Your prayers are so very welcome and needed by all who are sick and dying. We truly cannot imagine the true pain and agony they and their families are going through. I keep reminding myself that my pain pales in comparison. Though still confined to my recliner (I still thank John/Hckynut for recommending the purchase prior to my surgery in 2012), I can at least now crochet a bit each day and my granddaughter and I made fudge yesterdayt, as the weather was perfect for making candy. I did pay for it later and today, but it is glorious fudge!
God Bless!

Hi CaliDogMom,
Got your sun! Thank you! Was able to make fudge with my granddaughter yesterday, as the weather was sunny and dry, which is great candy making weather. Everyone is enjoying the fudge, as I am flat on my back once again, recouperating from the ordeal, which really should not have been an ordeal, but these days is. Oh, well...
In 2 days I swear I'm going to make Italian ricotta cookies with icing and sprinkles on top. If I cannot bake, I shall turn to stone...Even if I suffer for the following week!
Enjoy the cake. If you have issues, get back to me. It is a rather basic recipe, so believe you should fair well.

I like to make lemon curd for the filling. Homemade strawberry jam is divine as well.
If you like a light frosting, I would think a 7 minute icing/frosting would do the trick.
