I make my ice tea which I call 50/50/R
First you have to have 2 empty prune bottles for mixing.
Then I brew 8 regular tea bags in hot water for 16 minutes.
Then I put Crystal Lite Lemonade in one bottle and fill the
bottle with water. Mix well.
Then when tea has brewed I pour in the other prune bottle.
I add 4 Trivia packets to tea and 3 tablespoons of Raspberry
syrup that I get at Sams. Then I fill the bottle with water.
Now mix the Crystal Lite Lemonade with the tea. Half and
half of each and pour in another container. I use a Tropicana
orange juice container for the finished tea.
We think this tea that I fix is so refreshing and everyone seems
to love it. Even my insurance man when he drops by requests
a glass fo 50/50/R. Oh the R is for the raspberry syrup.![]()

My little saucepan for three Lipton tea bags is so old (1982) that the water line will never come off so measuring is not necessary. You can practically see the Texas Sweet Tea sitting in the little pan. Back in my younger days the tea pitcher had more sugar added to it than probably in a can of coke.

@kitty4me wrote:ECBG I would not boil my tea bags. I do know this. I did boil the filtrred water in a pot on the stove 2qts. Then put teabag in pitcher poured water over teabag waited 4 minutes steeping time for black tea.I then added 7 cups of cold water. I was suppose to add 8 cups but I wanted a bit strong. This tea bag I bought makes 1 gallon. I may also play with my Breville Tea Maker.
@kitty4me**Sounds like you're doing well. Be sure to cover the top of the container while it steeps to develop a good flavor. The steam affects your flavor too! When we make ours, we have an 8 C batter bowl that DH stole from me to do tea in! It's perfect! We fill it with hot water half way, whisk in the sugar, and add the tea bags. It all goes in the microwave for about five minutes, then it comes out and sits with a paper towel over it for about seven minutes. Then we remove the bags, put in a pitcher with cold water and ice.

Being from the South, I have tried several methods, this seems to be the best for me. I take a gallon of distilled water and pour a small amount (maybe 1/3 of the gal) into a small pot and while that is heating to a boil, I add my unrefined sugar, personal choice, I use a cup for a gallon. Stir this in pot to dissolve. When comes to a boil, cut stove off, remove pot from burner, add 4 family-size tea bags, cover pot, let steep for 4 to 5 minutes. While using a funnel, slowly pour warm liquid into rest of the gallon of water. Give it a shake and enjoy.

Southern Iced Tea is wonderful! My Grandmother had a glass or two each day and lived to be 97yo. Here is my 5-5-5 Iced Tea Recipe:
Bring just to boil 5cups of water. (not a rolling boil, just starting to boil)
Cut off the heat and add 5 black tea bags regular size.
Steep 5minutes , too long and it will become bitter so SET THE TIMER!
Pour into a 2quart pitcher, add sugar to taste (1/2Cup to 1Cup). or no sugar and put packet of splenda in serving glass. Fill pitcher with cold water. Add lemon slices to each glass with ice and ENJOY!

I would like to know do you use filtered water if so what brand? If your Refrigerator uses a filter do you use it?
@kitty4me***Sorry I didn't get back. I didn't know you had a question b/c you didn't leave me a message.
If you have "good" water, by all means use it. We live in the mountains and our water is excellent.
The large batter pitcher is one I bought for other things because I like stirring and having a handle, and DH claimed it!
