This is the salad that I put in sweet pickle relish. If not that, then I dice up sweet pickles.

So...pasta, hard cooked eggs, onion, celery, sweet pickles, grated carrots, mayo (mix w/ Miracle Whip), season w/ celery seed, S&P, yellow mustard.

@Harpa

This is my recipe too. Sometimes I stir in a can of tuna fish.

4 cups elbow macaroni

1 cup mayonnaise

1/4 cup white vinegar

1/4 cup sugar

2 1/2 tbsp yellow mustard

1 1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

1 onion, chopped

2 stalks celery, chopped

1 green pepper, chopped

Cook macaroni until tender, rinse under cold water, and drain.  Mix mayonnaise, vinegar, sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper in big bowl.  Stir in onion, celery, green pepper, and macaroni.  Refrigerate overnight for best flavor.

David Venable's is pretty good...it's got lots of stuff in it. I made it last summer and hubby and I enjoyed it. Can't quite remember now but I do think I used a little less sour cream as I'm not a huge fan. Also tweaked it some when it was finished up and I tasted it. Oh, I did not put the ham in it as I just didn't want any meat. Anyway, here it is:

BASIC MACARONI SALAD

This is the recipe for the macaroni salad sold in the deli at our local co-op.  This is good on its own or to use as a starting point to add to.

1 pound small elbow pasta

1-1/2 cups mayo

1 T Dijon mustard

2 T white wine vinegar

1-1/2 t dry mustard

salt and pepper to taste

3-4 green onions, sliced

3 celery ribs, diced

3/4 cup sliced black olives, well drained

1 red bell pepper, diced

1 handful Italian parsley, finely chopped

Cook macaroni according to instructions.  Drain,  Rinse to cool and let dry.

Mix together mayo, Dijon, vinegar, dry mustard and s/p until blended.  Add to pasta and toss to combine.

Toss remaining ingredients with dressed pasta.

I always add a garnish to the bowl such as sliced hard boiled eggs, tomato wedges or avocado slices.
