Looking for something nice to bring ..........

I was told I needn't bring anything to a relative's dinner, but I feel I need to pick up something TODAY. I don't want to cook it-just find something I can contribute. Would consider making something EZ! You people know everything so I thought I'd ask and thnx.

@Judaline

Under the same instructions, I've taken a tray of cookies (Italian!) from the grocery store bakery or regular bakery and they were always well received!

Even though pies/cakes are often made for Thanksgiving, who doesn't love a not too sweet cookie with coffee/tea afterwards, LOL!

The Italian cookie trays always have a variety of cookies, so everyone is guaranteed to like at least one or two of the varieties.

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

@Judaline, rather than a bring I'm going to suggest a don't bring.  Please, unless you have coordinated with the hosts do not bring a food for inclusion at the Thanksgiving meal.

Candy, flowers already in a vase, a small plant (succulents are easy) a candle, something the hosts collect.

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

The cookie idea sounds like a good one that would be enjoyed by all ages. The decorated holiday ones with a turkey or pilgrim hat or something would be fun. Kind of an early Christmas cookie treat.

If your hosts would enjoy and appreciate wine, that is another option.

I would bring a box of chocolates.  People don't have to eat the chocolates with the Thanksgiving dinner.  The host can save it for a later date.

Re: Looking for something nice to bring ..........

If you are coming to my house for a meal please please please do not bring me something. AND PLEASE DO NOT BRING FOOD.

I have enough stress without having to stop and do something with it if something is coming out of the oven or needs put in, etc. AND I have a meal planned, dishes out, serving pieces selected etc.  Please NO FOOD.

And please don't bring dessert.  It might be better than what I have planned and that would be terribly rude.  Or it would make other guests choose yours or mine, so that's not good.

However SHOULD you have a nervous breakdown at my house if you don't bring something bring me some new dish towels OR some scones for breakfast the next day.

Please don't be that guest that has to bring the special extra dish, and make my hard work for the night play second fiddle.
