Same here. There was a poster recently who suggested we just Google our cooking questions and not waste time on the boards. I disagree. There is no substitute for ""talking"" to other cooks.

I checked out Pioneer WOman's Holiday cookbook, looked through it and can say there is no one recipe in there I would make. Some of the stuff I don't even consider a "recipe." It's just cooking.

Oh my you are 100% right. I have tried a lot of her recipes and I have been disappointed more often than not.

Snugglebunny, no truer words were spoken. I used to collect cookbooks. Sometimes I'd make something from one of the books.

Often, it was hit or miss! My family gradually got upset with me and took a vote and voted no more experimenting with some of these cookbooks. (In other words, some of them were terrible). I would promise that I'd followed the directions, ingredients and all. They would say, "No way someone would be allowed to put out a cookbook on something that terrible".

Well, they did and they were allowed and people (ummmmm me) bought it/them.

Live and learn.

Now that I live here with my two new furbabies, I don't cook (well just spaghetti).

They are grateful that I don't buy cat cookbooks.

I so agree. I can't believe how bad some cookbooks are. I have found that there are so many lousy slow cooker books, in particular.

Yep, tried and true, that is why Gooseberry Patch and TOH are 2 I would go to first. At this time in our lives and with a bunch of cookbooks, the truth for us, is we no longer eat as much or our tastes have changed and we're pretty much set in what we like or not. So cookbooks now, aren't bought as much. I will stay with what I have, I can't really experiment much any more nor do I think I really want to. It's changed for me.

LOL, this is sad but true. I still collect cookbooks as well as e-cookbooks. Even if you have one recipe that is outstanding doesn't mean you'll like everything in it. Tastebuds are also a big factor. People don't like the same things. I generally look at a recipe and often change it before I ever make it.

This is so true.

Many years ago I purchased all the cookbooks from Mary Beth. I love Mary Beth as a host, but don't like her cookbooks. I've tried a lot and they have all been flops.

Her main dish meals have no flavor whatsoever.

I know it's just personal taste, but I've never bought a celebrity cookbook again.

I love Allrecipes online though and won't make anything until I've read reviews.

Re: Just because someone writes a cookbook that's no guarantee the recipes are good.

I've done that too. Bought a cookbook and only use one or two recipes out of it and the rest of them are awful. I don't buy cookbooks anymore. I use the internet sites and Pinterest is a good place for good recipes too. I've had many successful ones from there. I've been slowly weeding the c/books out. I also have been using the library more and found that the Cooking Light series of books are really great. I use them all the time but get them from the library.
