Italian bread

Good evening everyone. We use to get great Italian bread and Italian buns from a great bakery that has been near us for like 50 'years bit they closed last year.I have an Italian bread recipe but its not that good. Does any of you have a great Italian bread recipe? I make another Italian bread recipe in my bread maker but that does thrill me either. I appreciate a great recipe for Italian bread if any on you has one. Thank you all.

If you have a Walmart near you, try the Portuguese bread: it is a little softer crustwise than Italian bread.  But we really enjoy the difference.  Perhaps if you toast the loaf, you may get it crustier if that's your preference.

What is it about that particular bread that you like and would like to find elsewhere?

My grandparents made Italian bread and no other place has it like that.  I sure do miss that bread.
