I believe you can use canned pineapple, just not fresh pineapple in jello.

When I was a child my mom made green jello with crushed pineapple and cottage cheese. It was so good!

Just made parfaits this weekend. Strawberry jello on bottom, fresh layer of blueberries, vanilla instant pudding, top with layer of strawberries. Delish!

@WORKING GAL I also remember Jello 123. I made for my family occasionally. One very simple thing I did for my kids was
make lime jello with one cup of boiling water and add one half cup of cold water. Then I would drain the juice from a large can
of pineapple slices. Pour the dissolved jello into the can of pineapple. When it has set, open the other end of the can and
push the contents out. It can then be sliced between the pineapple
slices. It looks nice with slices of pineapple in the lime jello.
