How to Make Croutons From Old Bread

I tried to make some today from a recipe on Food.com.   But, my croutons burned!

I cut up bread, added some oil, garlic powder, salt, paprika and placed on a sheet and baked for 10 min. on 400 degrees.

Any suggestions and tips for not burning them next time!

Thanks.

Just throw them in a skillet on top of the stove for a few minutes with a small amount of olive oil and continue to stir them gently until they brown. It doesn't take long at all.

This is what I do above, but add a bit of sea salt and garlic powder to the olive oil in the skillet, mix and add bread.  The bread will really soak up the olive oil/seasoning mixture.

It doesn't take long and they are so good.

Just check on them as they are baking.  Does your oven have a window?

The temp sounds too high, though.  350-375 would work but check on the croutons early and often.

Good ideas.   I was following their recipe, but I think 400 was way too high too.

@Frosted Cake, I bake mine at 350 for 10-15 minutes. No burning.

I think I had mine way too high for too long.   Thanks for the info.   I hate to throw out bread that is a bit old.   I love the crunch of croutons in a salad.
