I ran home from church to frost my carrot cake for dinner.  I did not have 3 cups of powdered sugar.  I made my own with one cup of sugar plus one tablespoon of cornstarch. I no longer have a blender but used my Vitamix and it turned out wonderfully. Made a little over a cup of poder d sugar to save the day for the frosting.  I was so happy I remembered reading this tip somewhere.

That's great, chips! I saw a YouTube video that showed how to make powdered sugar (or, as some call it, icing sugar). I have not tried it yet, but isn't it awesome how we can make many things ourselves, especially in a pinch, without going to the store? I don't have a Vitamix, but I hear almost any blender-type appliance will work. I have an older model Ninja blender and a coffee bean grinder. I don't know which I'd use. A Vitamix is out of my budget right now. Thanks for the post. Good to know it turned out for you! Something for me to look forward to.

I do that with kosher salt also to make "popcorn salt".

You can  also make "cake flour" using cornstarch and All Purpose flour and it works wonderfully when you're in a jam. haha ... like when it comes to baking a cake you could ever truly be in a jam Woman Wink
