Found this on Pinterest while browsing. I'm sharing it here because I had such a miserable time trying to get down to the actual recipe on Pinterest.
My Mom's recipe for Chex Mix is AMAZING! I am sharing her secret!
Chex Mix Recipe
Source: Linda Jennings
Prep time: 15 mins
Cook time: 1 hour
Total time: 1 hour 15 mins
Serves: 6
Our family’s FAVORITE snack food during the holidays is Chex Mix. This is not the recipe on the box but the one that Mom has perfected throughout the years.
4 cups Rice Chex
1 cup Wheat Chex
4 cups Cheerios
4 cups Pretzels
1 cup Mixed Nuts
1 cup Cashews
3 sticks unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon celery salt
1 teaspoon onion salt
1 teaspoon garlic salt
2-1/2 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
Bake 250 degrees for 1 hour. Stir every 15 minutes. Let cool and store in an airtight container.
[I have had a really interesting time searching out "historic" versions of this recipe on the Internet and how it has evolved over the years as tastes change and prices change. Surprisingly -- to me -- the food companies don't keep any records of the recipes they used in their ads at various times.]

@Honeybit wrote:'Tis the season for Chex Party Mix, and I got involved in a search for the ORIGINAL "Original" Chex Party Mix from back before Bagel Chips were invented. I'll include what I found here, but I'd like to know what are your favorite snack mix recipes to make and serve during the Holiday Season?

"The true original recipe came from an ad that ran in the June 1952 edition of Life Magazine. Yes, back then people actually read physical magazines, so all it took was one ad like that to spur a revolution which has now lasted six decades and counting. Not to mention, spawning sweet versions like puppy chow and more recently, spicy versions with cayenne pepper and sriracha and chai tea.
Rumor has it that the inventor of the first recipe was the wife of a Ralston Purina executive (the company who made the cereal, before General Mills bought it). She brought the mix to a holiday function in St. Louis, or so the story goes. And the rest is history -- or at least myth!
From the Life Magazine ad:
Wonderful Nibbling at Snack-Time
Try this new PARTY MIX.
Melt 1/3 cup butter in shallow baking pan. Stir in 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce. Add 2 cups Wheat Chex, 2 cups Rice Chex, and 1/2 cup nuts. Sprinkle with 1/4 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp garlic salt; mix well. Heat 30 minutes in 300° oven, stirring every 10 minutes. Cool.

This recipe debuted in the 1950s. The version here is from the back of a box of Corn Chex cereal from the 1970s (which included a picture of those wonderful "Uncola" upside-down 7UP glasses).
Well, that just added another gray hair. I bolded that part above. Yes, my parents had Life and Look magazines that I recall. "Actual magazines". So funny!! Maybe I'll make it this year. We use to have it every year.

Love that "just added another gray hair" -- I have a whole "actual" file folder of Snack Mix recipes clipped from newspapers and magazines and boxes, including a couple from the 1980's featuring Charlie Brown and Lucy. I'm certainly not ready to deal with e-clippings! Dang It, I still write paper checks, too.
P.S. Back then the cereal was named "Shredded Ralston". The "Chex" came later and was harking to the Red and White checks in the company logo.

I have just finished my second batch of the Chex mix. Looked at many recipes and all have the same ingredients just different measurements. Also made the muddy buddies and the Christmas trash. I had some trouble getting the trash to come together in small clumps. Added more white chocolate but I think it made it way too sweet. I must say my house smells so,food while the Chex mix is in the oven.

I remember my mom making this when we were kids. Not for us kids, she made for it the card parties that she had. There are hundreds of recipes for it on Pinterest. I might try one.
