I plan on making broiled chicken with artichokes tonight., a Taste of Home Recipe.  It says to warm broiler but doesn't say at what temperature.  I've never cooked with the broiler before.  My oven has temps over 500 degrees to set with the broiler.  What do you think I should set temperature at?  It says to cook for 8-10 minutes.  I'm using 2 pieces of boneless/skinless chicken breasts instead of 6 chicken thighs.

Re: Help with cooking a broiler

I would set it at 525 degrees.

Thank you.  Hope I cook this right.  Never used broiler before.  Little nervous.

Just keep an eye on it that it doesn't get too crispy.

I'm worried about that.  It says to cook 3 inches from broiler mechanism.

Sometimes when broiling chicken over 500 degrees, it can get smoky.  Be prepared to use your exhaust fan or maybe turn it down to 450. Skinless makes less smoke. Stay in the kitchen when broiling.

I broil at home frequently but also order broiled chickens in restaurants.

It is said to set your broiler at 500 degrees for broiling chicken breasts and keep the door slightly ajar to vent but not too much or it will steam the chicken.

Using the broiler is the way people would "grill" foods before charcoal, then gas grills became popular.

One of my grand mothers used to broil sirloin steaks with garlic.  It was good as a child.

Re: Help with cooking a broiler

Broiling is one of the best ways to cook meats and get rid of the excess fat which drips into a bottom pan.  Broiled meat contains less calories than other cooking methods.
