Yes, that's what they are called....written recipe in one of my mom's cookbooks, we were talking about it last night and thought she wrote it down from someone in her girl scout troop when she was a leader.

My mom makes these every year and they are rich and delicious....very easy ingrediants but they do take time since the dough is not the easiest to work with.

4 cups flour

1 # butter (real stuff)

1 # bakers cheese (no subs, usually available from specialty grocery stores)

1# cooked, drained pitted prunes

Cut the butter into the flour until you can't see the butter. Combine with the bakers cheese. Divide into 4 and wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate until cold.

Take 1 of the wrap dough pieces out and roll out thin, cut into 3" squares, add a prune and roll up, seal edges and bake 375 deg for 15 minutes. Cool slightly and roll in powered sugar.

Tips: Roll sections of dough between 2 pieces of plastic wrap. Roll a little thicker, cut a smaller square and re-roll each piece between 2 pieces of wrap. Make sure prunes are somewhat dry by plotting each prune in paper toweling. Increase baking minutes if necessary, they should be a light golden brown. If you store in plastic, they will get "wet" so I would suggest just putting them in a container and covering with foil. Before serving, sift additional powered sugar over them. Not sure, haven't tried it yet, but I thought a food processor would work too by pulsing the butter into the flour.

These are very rich. My mom has also made a nut version too in addition to the prune filled so that's possible. I believe she uses finely ground nuts and egg white so the nut mixture binds together.

Hopefully someone else will enjoy these as much as I do. You can also cut everything in half and make a smaller amount.
