Yepper, done it many times in the past!
I'm TRYING to be better, now I write the recipe I'm going to make on the grocery list along with the ingredients.
Then, I print the recipe & put it on the counter in front of the coffee pot. I don't start ANY day without the coffee pot so that's the one spot I will be every day!
It's helping, no orphan ingredients sitting around lately!

@MJDinVegas wrote:@Kachina624, you are NOT alone! I always have to print the recipe I’m thinking I may want to make, and, if I haven’t in a short time frame, that recipe goes into a file that is “waiting” to be added to my formal recipe files. I have a stupid system but every once in a while I clean it out and start the cycle again. If I really want to make the recipe, I leave it out on my desk, although I must confess there can be a pile of those too! YIKES,
Good gracious, you are my twin! I do the EXACT same thing. Pile at work is the 'soon' pile...pile at home is the 'very soon' pile! Both piles are racing eachother to the ceiling!
If I just 'save' it in Word, I will forget that I want to make it!
Yes ma'am! I do this all the time! I know I bought this item(s) for something!
Arrgh!
Then I have to list it as 'Next Ingredient' in the monthly Recipe Game, so I can come up with a new recipe for it!
Sometimes, these ingredients sit in my pantry and taunt me! LOL

So funny.
Years ago, I remember having a clipping of a recipe that I wanted to make when I had the time. For some reason, I never got around to making it. I finally got around to collecting some of ingredients and had decided to make it that weekend. The recipe must have fallen or I misplaced it because I could never find it. I couldn't remember what the others ingredients were that I was missing, either. I made a soup with the remaining ingredients.

And then the worst part is you have leftover ingredients that may never get used, especially if the recipe was a dud. I have to say, though, I’ve bought far more Indian spice, eg, Garam Masala, than I ever thought I’d use in a lifetime! LOL.

Completely understand. I will use one of said ingredients in something else and then be short when it is time to make the original dish. I just remind myself that if I had a brain i’d be dangerous. Lol

did you ever remember what the recipe was? If so, what was it? dying to know :-)

LOL! that sounds like something I'd do!

Yes, I have done that several times. Now when I add an item to my list I also write down the recipe that I need it for. It will come back to you in time.
