OVERNIGHT FRENCH TOAST

  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, room temperature
  • 12 - 3/4-inch-thick French bread slices (I used stale sliced bread)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar
  1. Spread butter over bottom of heavy large baking pan with 1-inch-high sides. Arrange bread slices in pan in one layer. Beat eggs, milk, sugar, syrup, vanilla and salt to blend in large bowl. Pour mixture over bread. Turn bread slices to coat. Cover with plastic and refrigerate overnight.
  2. Preheat oven to 400°F. Bake for 10 minutes. Turn bread over and continue baking until just golden, about 5 minutes longer.
  3. Transfer cooked toast to plates and sprinkle with powdered sugar OR serve with your favorite syrup or other topping. Serve immediately!

I made this for two of us!  Choose a smaller pan, butter and put one layer of bread in the pan.  I cut my bread in quarters to make it easier to fit into pan.  It holds together when cooked. I used 3 slices in a toaster oven pan; a loaf pan would work.

Half the recipe (EASY) and pour over bread; turn and refrigerate.

I set it out of the fridge while my Breville preheated then baked as directed.

Easy breakfast for two and takes no effort in the morning!

Re: EASY OVERNIGHT FRENCH TOAST

Thanks for the recipe.  It does sound easy.  Might stop and get some bread to make it this weekend.

When the toast is done, you can serve it with your favorite syrup or with your favorite topping (fruit, yogurt, jelly)

I never sprinkle with powdered sugar, mostly for looks when serving.

I like the fact that I can put it in the Breville for 20 mins and have French toast.  You don't have to stand and watch them cook.  Quite tasty!
