I think HSN could sell more of the cookbooks if Cathy Mitchell did the presenting. Remember her, from the infomercials? In one, she made a dessert out of frozen fruit, cake mix, and a can of soda (use diet if you're counting calories).

That's why I won't drink a Bloody Mary, but if they renamed them, I'd happily start drinking them.

you are just layering the ingredients in the pan and then baking them....nothing new....I have many recipes from years ago that would qualify as "dump" cakes
the dump meals probably are just canned ingredients like soups, cheese, etc. not interested since that usually means lots of sodium and processed foods.
OP should find a copy of the Dump Cakes book at BB&Beyond, etc and flip through it to see what the recipes look like. I agree they need to change the name of the books....puts me off rather than making me want to buy it.

I checked out the Super Wal-Mart but they didn't have the book so it will be BB&B next as well as the inter-net.

On 10/21/2014 Hooty said:that cake is one of my favorites too....tastes way WAY more delicious than some fancier cakes.Oh good grief, dump cakes have been around for years, first in the 70's and they are delicious! One of my old favorites is made with apple pie filing, pecans, cake mix, and butter, it is delicious! BTW, you basically "dump" things in a pan ........... what else would you call it???
I am interesting in trying the dinners too, but I haven't seen the cookbook in my area yet!

To be honest, it NEVER rang a bell with me that DUMP would mean anything besides dumping ingredients into a bowl or baking dish/pan, when referring to those recipes.
It cracks me up how people see things so differently!
And can't see past titles?
There are plenty of recipes like pancakes and waffles that use a baking mix, so what's the difference if a cake mix is substituted! I always thought it was a novel idea - and the peach dump cake I took to a potluck in 1992 was the biggest hit ever! The vice principal asked me for the recipe, and when HE made it, he asked if I left something out of the recipe, because his turned out differently...ha! I'd never do that, but maybe the baking times or heat of the ovens were different? I never really knew. Sometimes, I think foods just taste better when someone else make it!
I'm including a BETTER THAN "S--" recipe below, but by all means, please feel free to pass this one right on by, if it offends you! It offends the Q, so I had to use a different name...![]()
If you DARE, you can check out the "S--" IN A PAN recipe, also ewww LOL
Now, don't those sound appetizing??????????
Better Than "S--" Cake
1 box chocolate cake mix (+ whatever it calls for on the back)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 jar hot fudge sauce
1-8 oz container of cool whip
4 Skor* Bars, crushed (or Heath Bar)
Make and bake cake according to box directions in a 9x13 in pan. As soon as it comes out of the oven, poke holes with the handle of a wooden spoon all over the cake.
Pour sweetened condensed milk over the top. Let cool completely.
Next spread fudge over the cake, and put in the fridge to set. When it is cool, spread cool whip over the top and then top with crushed score bars. Refrigerate leftovers. This cake gets more moist the next day.
