PEPPER RELISH

12 GREEN SWEET PEPPERS

12 RED SWEET PEPPERS

12 SMALL ONIONS

1 PINT WATER

1 HOT PEPPER

2 TABLESPOONS SALT

2 CUPS SUGAR

1 PINT VINEGAR

WASH, REMOVE SEEDS,COMBINE ONIONS & PEPPERS (CHOPPED OR GRIND COARSE). SPRINKLE WITH SALT. LET STAND 10 MINUTES. DRAIN. MIX SUGAR, WATER & VINEGAR &BRING TO BOILING. POUR OVER VEGGIES & BOIL FOR 15 MINUTES. PACK IN HOT JARS AND SEAL.

This recipe came from a lady who if still alive would be 120 years old or so. It was in my mom's recipe book from a sweet elderly lady who always visited with food!!! Maybe this recipe is similar to the one you remember. I've never made it but my mom says it is really good.

Molly, I think you've found it! This is a bit more in line with what I recall. My Granny would have been 119 this year, so the time frame is just about right! I may cut this back a bit, try a small batch and see if it's the right mix. Thank you so much, Molly.

Re: Does anyone remember.....?

For those who might be interested, I find a lot of these old recipes in my mother's cookbook, Searchlight Recipe Book published by Household, with many printings, and mine is a 1937 edition, I believe. Copies are available on Amazon and it's an amazing old book:
