1-8oz pkg dates

1 tsp baking soda

1 1/3 cup boiling water

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup butter or margarine

2 eggs

1 3/4 cup flour

3/4 tsp. baking powder

TOPPING

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup chopped nuts

6 oz chocolate chips

Directions

Add baking soda to the hot water and CUT IN DATES; set aside to cool.

Cream together sugar, butter and eggs. Add to COOLED date mix. Mix in flour and baking powder. Mix well and pour into greased 9x13 pan.

Sprinkle topping of sugar, nuts and chocolate chips on UNBAKED cake.

Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
