Re: Cocktail meatballs in crockpot, grape jelly or jellied cranberry sauce?

I used Rosina cocktail meatballs for an appetizer on Christmas Eve.  I used two jars of Heinz chili sauce and a ten ounce jar of Concord grape jelly and put hem in the crockpot.  They were delicious and no leftovers.

Re: Cocktail meatballs in crockpot, grape jelly or jellied cranberry sauce?

Well, this is perfect timing. We are having a daddy shower Monday, so I've got to bring something to work. Since work has limitations for access to a stove and the like, I thought automatically about using a crockpot. I thought about meatballs because they always go over so well, but I also thought about buffalo chicken dip.

Now I don't know which to bring or to bring both! HAHA! What an ordeal.

The cranberry sounds great for this time of year, a bit sweet and tart. I may do that one since I'm not big on really sweet things.

Re: Cocktail meatballs in crockpot, grape jelly or jellied cranberry sauce?

Here's another version of little cocktail party meatballs:

SAUSAGE COCKTAIL BALLS

Mix 1 pound hot pork sausage and 1 pound mild pork sausage.  Form into bite-sized balls, and set aside.

Mix 1 cup currant jelly or apple jelly with 1/2 cup prepared mustard.

Heat mixture until jelly is almost dissolved.

Add sausage balls and simmer for 30 minutes.

Serve with toothpicks.

Here's the original Ocean Spray  recipe for cranberry/chili sauce meatballs:

One 2-lb. bag frozen, precooked, cocktail-size meatballs

1 16-oz. can Ocean Spray jellied cranberry sauce

1 12-oz. bottle Heinz Chili Sauce

Combine sauces in a large saucepan.  Cook over medium-low heat, stirring until smooth.

Add meatballs.  Cover and cook 15 minutes or until meatballs are heated through, stirring occasionally.

Makes 30 appetizer servings.

For slow-cooker preparation.......Place meatballs in slow cooker.  Combine sauces and pour over meatballs.  Cover and cook 4 hours on High.

Re: Cocktail meatballs in crockpot, grape jelly or jellied cranberry sauce?

I have ever only used a mix of equal amounts of grape jelly and ketchup  for a great BBQ sauce for meatballs as well as chicken wings and thighs or even pulled pork. This always turns out great for me and seems to always go over big.
