For many years now I only buy tuna from South America, European or Mediterranean sources.  I find them on Amazon and other places.

I'll spend a lot more than grocery store prices on tuna too--you get what you pay for.  I'll spend as much as for a happy meal on good tuna.   Tonnino is good and is in stores.

Same with sardines!  Wonderful ones are available but not in grocery stores. I consider this a good meal, not a cheap snack.

I bought canned tuna from Sam's Club the smell was so bad I threw it out and returned the remaining cans for a refund... if you want good quality canned tuna Costco has the best...

Natural Catch...really good, ocean caught with line fishing no nets, sold on their website & available from the company on Amazon & Walmart. It's not cheap, 6 for $29.95, I had the yellow fin in olive oil & white albacore in water...they sell sardines & mackerel too.

I only buy Kirkland albacore from Costco.  Firm and not soupy.

I asked the owner of the grocery about this when I returned the two cans.  She said that almost all of Bumble Bee tuna comes from overseas.  I will not buy any tuna produced in Asia as the processes they use are not acceptable and the fish does not come from good sources.

There are different types of tuna, tasting differently plus tuna packed in oil will have a stronger fishy taste than tuna packed in water.

Have you ever watched "Wicked Tuna" on TV?  I was amazed to learn one fish may be worth $6,000 or more and that's just what the fisherman gets.  If you want the best tasting, buy the most expensive.

Re: Canned Tuna Fish

[ Edited ]

@meallen616- I have had the same experience with Bumble Bee solid white albacore and have called the company about this issue.

They tell me even though the tuna has veins of red/brownish going through it it is still white albacore.  I stopped buying this brand and tried Great Value Solid White Albacore from Walmart.  I am very pleased with it.  All the cans I've opened have been solid white and tastes good.  It is so solid packed that I find it has little liquid resulting in more tuna. Also, it is priced much lower than Bumble Bee.

I don't eat canned tuna anymore. It tastes just like the tin can.

ETA-

I've never actually tried to eat a tin can but that's just what I would imagine it to taste like. You know exactly what it is, that metallic taste in your mouth after eating tuna.

@SilleeMee Try Starkist in the pouch. Their albacore is delicious. Absolutely no off flavors. Tastes very fresh despite a long shelf life.
Worstthing about albacore though is it's higher than light tuna in mercury. The light tuna in the pouch is still good, just not as good as the albacore.
