Mom just came back from the grocery with a HUGE bag of Avocados that appear to be on their last leg.  She said she wouldn't have normally bought them, but the lady working in produce told her she freezes them all the time...and they were only $2.  

I laughed because I've never heard of this.  Has anyone here ever successfully frozen and ate later?

I have seen them for sale frozen at costco, not sure how they fare. They would probably be fine to use in guacamole after freezing, not sure about just eating on their own.

Well, I feel a little better lol.  I haven't seen them for sale frozen.  These poor things don't look long for the world, so unless I fix a giant bowl of guacamole tonight, there's no way they'll last even a couple more days.

She's bound and set these be frozen!  I think it's because I laughed.  Oh boy!🌸

That's what she's done.  Already tossed in the freezer still in the big net bag lol.   Ya know, they might arrive at the grocery frozen? I'd never considered this before until @spumoni99   mentioned it.

I know she was excited to find such a big bag for only $2

According to Martha Stewart, you should freeze slices w/o their peels.

I do buy frozen avocados at Wal-Mart for my smoothies  that is the only time I use them so I don't know what they taste like by themselves.

Although, truth be told, she's set on freezing them still unpeeled and in the bag.  I don't know if she'll believe me telling her this over the produce lady lol.

I know this wasn't my original question, but what kind of smoothie do you make with avocados?  I've never had one like that.

Once upon a time--a hundred years ago----my local Safeway store had avos on sale for 50 cents each-----I bought $20 worth and then peeled them, cut them up  to put into my freezer--mostly for smoothies. Never did thaw them for anything else tho.
