I am fairly new to crockpot cooking actually buying my first one ever only several months ago. I found a Chicken Picante recipe on a crockpot recipe blog site that I tried. It didn't sound right to me at ALL, but I did it anyways thinking they must know more than me! LOL
It called for dipping the chix into egg and then panko and then just placing them in the bottom of the crock. No pre-frying or browning!!?? I am thinking, how will these breadcrumbs cook on the chix in a crock? Well they DIDN'T! LOL After adding the liquids (wine, lemon etc) and cooking...I had nice tasting chix w/ blobs of mushy soft crumbs on top! The blobs also got into the liquids. It was all white and pasty and very ugly. I scraped it all off and we ate the naked chix. Luckily, no one that was suppose to come for din showed up cuz I would have been embarrased! LOL
I should have trusted my first instincts that some procedures just won't work in a crockpot. The Italian in me was saying "FRY, FRY!" but I was trying this as written hoping for a more heathy recipe without the frying.
Has anyone else ever tried something like this in a crockpot? Is it possible to cook a recipe like this in a crock? I tossed all the similar recipes I had printed from this site. Your thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks!
