Warning **contains Bacon**, don't look if you don't like bacon.Smile

I have had this recipe for a long time and have never made it. I think I have made so many kinds of breakfast casseroles, so I don't know why I have not! It calls for 1 pound of bacon, which I'm fine with, but I may even cut that down to a smaller amount for this.

Cheddar Apple Bacon Strata

3 T. butter

3 medium granny smith apples, chopped (about 3 c.)

3 T. brown sugar

4 c. cubed bread

1 lb. bacon, cooked and chopped

2 c. sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

2 1/2 c. milk

1 t. dry mustard

2 t. Worcestershire

5 eggs

salt and pepper to taste

Melt butter in a pan, add apples and cook a few minutes keeping them crisp, add in brown sugar and cook about 5 minutes longer.

Grease a casserole dish. Layer 1/2 the bread, 1/2 bacon, 1/2 apples and 1/2 cheese, follow with a second layer of bread, bacon, apples and cheese.

Mix the milk, mustard, Worcestershire, eggs, salt and pepper. Pour mix over the bread layers and lightly press down. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours and up to 24 hours, over night works best.

Remove from refrigerator and heat oven to 350. Bake, uncovered for 40-45 minutes until the middle is set. Let rest for about 10 minutes before cutting.
