Re: Blue Apron.....has anyone here tried it?

I've seen a lot of these services cropping up lately but haven't used any yet. A couple of my friends use Plated or Hello Fresh but I haven't compared prices or other details. I may try a few at some point and would love to hear your reviews of any of these services.

Re: Blue Apron.....has anyone here tried it?

I just ate a first rate meal - Thanks to Blue Apron. In fact the potatoes and corn/tomato side dishes were so good. I did not need the Bavette Steak. It included Creme Fraiche. I think  you could put that on anything - and make it delicious.

I really like it. The meals are so tasty and most are about 500 calories. And I like that they send all the needed ingredients. And the right portion. No left over produce or half used containers, that ended up being thrown out. Well worth it. The directions  are clear and the recipes are tasty.

[ Edited ]

I was talking to someone yesterday whose son and DIL use Blue Apron.  They both work and get home late so are too tired to plan meals and shop.  She said they really like the service and that the meals are good and use fresh seasonal produce.  She said you don't have to sign a long-term contract and can skip meals if you want to with no penalty.  I believe she said the meals are delivered by Federal Express.

ETA:  I went to look up Blue Apron online and saw this link to a review of three different services with pictures of the deliveries.

Re: Blue Apron.....has anyone here tried it?

I have a thread about home delivered foods on here, I believe on Community Chat.  I stopped posting on it due to not many responses.  BUT...I love Blue Apron.  I also tried Hello Fresh.

Both services were very good but Blue Apron is cheaper with menus just as good as Hello Fresh.  Go to their Face Book pages and take a look.  I will say that one of the last meals I prepared had a salad with celery as the main ingredient.  There was supposed to be 2 whole stalks of celery and I received 2 tiny pieces of celery.  When made there was only about one serving of the salad instead of two.

Another thing to keep in mind is that you need to make sure that you have your schedule clear to cook the foods that week.  I had Blue Apron delivered Friday (my delivery date) and have only been home to eat one of the meals (delicious BTW).

Packaging with the dry ice was excellent.  For me, prep time took 5 to 10 minutes longer than specified.  If you're going to come home tired, this is not a service for you.
