Today is our granddaughter's 11th birthday and I just put her cake in the oven. It's her favorite, one I often bake for birthdays. It originates from "Bob's Cooks' Tours of East Chicago" a small paperback cookbook I inherited from my ML. I hope you enjoy it too!

Miriam's Banana Chocolate Chip Cake

2 1/2 c sugar

2 sticks butter

4 eggs

2 t baking soda, put in 1/2 c sour cream

2 c mashed bananas

3 c flour

2 t vanilla

1/2 t salt

8 oz chocolate chips

Cream butter and sugar together; add eggs and bananas. Mix well. Add soda/sour cream, vanilla, salt and flour; mix well. Stir in chips. This makes a large 9 x 13 " cake or 3 8" layer cakes. Bake in prepared pans (I line the bottom of layer cake pans with waxed paper) for 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool and frost with chocolate butter cream icing.
