Re: Beef-Mac-Tomato -- What Name?

It was called "Old Favorite" at my house. Think the recipe was on the Creamettes box. Ground beef, elbow mac, tomatoes, onions, green pepper...and the magic ingredient: velveeta!

Goulash! Still a fav here.If I tell my brothers I am making it for dinner they all show up. There is a big bowl of it in the fridge as we speak.

In my family we called it slumgullion. I just looked online and there are plenty of recipes for it under that name.

Re: Beef-Mac-Tomato -- What Name?

My mom made it with hamburger, stewed tomatoes, onion and green pepper, no cheese. I never heard her call it by any name but I didn't really care for it too much as a kid and called it noodle junk and that name stuck in the family. My sisters call it that today. I do make it now once in a while for my family-I like it better now-and my hubby likes to put Parmesan cheese on it which is a good addition.

We called it Goulash, too, when my Mom made it for us. I still make it sometimes. With a big pan of cornbread and a salad.

There was no cheese in ours. And you put paprika in it. . . so it was "authentic" Hungarian! {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

I'm from New England too, we call it American Chop Suey. I still make it, it brings back great memories and tastes good!

We called ground meat and onions and peppers cooked in cream of mushroom soup and poured over mashed potatoes slumgullion.
