Re: 7-Layer Bars

I make this recipe as a pie, using a graham cracker crust.   I prefer to stir everything together, with some of the coconut and nuts on the top, instead of layering.   I made this last night, but only used one cup total of peanut butter and chocolate chips.   I baked this for 35 minutes until the crust and coconut was brown, and the pie was bubbling.

This morning I bought the couple of things I was missing to try the 7 layer/Magic Bars your way.  Sounds so simple and delish.  Thanks for a great idea.

Hi  RedTop!

My sis got me started mixing all the toppings together too. Makes it way easier.

So, after the condensed milk is poured over the buttery graham crackers crumbs, in a big bowl, we mix the nuts, chocolate chips and coconut all together and evenly sprinkle over.

We don't make the '7 layer bars', and prefer the 'Magic Cookie Bars' recipe, which is minus the butterscotch chips.

Muddling through...

chill does it, not cool and slice!!  made these for a bake sale and it was a disaster trying to cut them neatly into bars. the base just crumbled.  dissolved into tears and put them in the fridge overnight to deal with in the morning. the next morning when i had worked up my nerve to tackle them,  they sliced easily and neatly. luck, more than good management.

if you are doing these bar cookies and still want to make another dessert, i would keep the second dessert very simple. the bar cookies are VERY sweet, so i would probably do a simple pound cake served with some berries and freshly whipped cream.

Way TOO sweet - SUGAR overload.
