This is tricky .........   I like the idea of cookies, rolls, and any packaged items that won't spoil, spill or leak.  And avoid containers that need to be washed and taken home.

Thanks.  I really didn't want to bring a cooler, or containers that I would need to keep track of during the clean up.

I also like the idea of a few bottles of wine.

I welcome all ideas, since I don't usually have such a unique set of circumstances.

Some might think buying food and drinks is "lazy", but people can be funny about potluck foods with ingredients that are uncertain ... and spoilage and food poisoning is always a possibility.   For potluck situations, I buy something good and call it a day.

@mac116   What kind of reunion is this where a person who lives hours away is "asked" to bring something?

Is this a "family" reunion?  If so, it's the host family responsiblity to provide the food, drinks & liquor.

@mac116 Nothing on earth would make me travel 6 hours (driving I'm assuming) to a pot luck!

@Love my grandkids

Truthfully, I was surprised to be asked to bring something to the reunion (potluck).  Most attendees live a bit closer, but all are a few hour's drive.  I'll bring something simple that I purchase. I'll also see how others react to this new request.

I've been asked to bring a dish to share at a weekend reunion.  We will travel a minimum of 6 hours in the heat to a bit of a remote location (no large grocery stores in the area).  All that I can think of is cookies or dinner rolls/croissants.  Any ideas would really be appreciated.

@mac116 Absolutely I would not attempt that.  I might freeze a couple of pecan pies ahead and let them thaw on the way, but I would (and we have many times) stopped for fried chicken or sub sandwiches in a town nearby.  Works out great.

I mean really what do they expect you to do?  Rent a refrigerated semi?  Woman Embarassed  We used to pick up hot Popeyes greasy chicken and it would be the first thing to go!  LOL!!!

if you dont want to bring a cooler or containers or anything, i would say make a few boxes of brownies and blondies. always gobbled up. take them in a throwaway tin container or a dollar store container. i also like the idea of rice krispie treats.

Something simple considering how far you have to travel.

Check out the recipe here for Key Lime Pie Balls.  They sure sound good and fairly easy to make.  Refrigerate and then pack in cooler for trip. Easy to transport.  They would definitely be something different.  Any cold salad, vegetable or fruit dish...also easy and good as well as easy to keep cold.

* only small cooler needed and put in disposable container

@mac116  Understanding that you don't want to bring a cooler, the only thing I can think of is a baked pie, cookies,  or some kind of Chex Mix. Are there kids? You could bring boxes of  those Frito Lays assortment boxes of chips and cheese curls.

You’re getting Lots of good ideas I like the cookies or rice Krispy ideas they can be made the day before you leave
While I’d NEVER do it myself I just wanted to tell you about what my friend does when she goes “ home “ to a family reunion
They travel 14 hours each year to attend the reunion, she of course can’t take food that far and they stay in hotels , but she goes to a relatives house , an aunt or cousins homes when she gets to her hometown and uses their kitchen to prepare the food she usually makes her most requested dish every year …deviled eggs
She takes her egg trays with her , shops when she gets there, and makes a couple dozen eggs
And usually picks up KFC chicken

I hope you enjoy the reunion whatever you decide to take

If you belong to Costco or BJ's, get a few 2 gallon sized jugs of different kinds of pretzels, Chex mix or other munchie snacks. BJ's sells trays of sliced pound cakes in a variety of flavors that are very good, as are their brownie bites. You could get inexpensive plastic bowls or trays at the dollar store to set them out on the table. As other posters have stated, bear in mind that guests might be reluctant to eat something that they fear might not have traveled well (especially for 6 hours).
