I have a recipe for cookies that says to bake them at 425 degrees for five to seven minutes. I want to try, but I am scared. Other cookie recipes I have seen are baked at 350 degrees for longer time. Does anyone know if 425 degrees is too high? The recipe is just a plain sugar cookie. Thanks for any input.

I bake quite a lot. I don't think I've ever baked cookies at 425 degrees. 350 degrees for longer is how I'd go too. Good luck!

Is this supposd to produce a crispy cookie? I think that's the reason for the high heat.
What's the source of the recipe? I would watch them very closely and take them out at 5 minutes and see how they're doing.
Personally, I prefer chewy cookies, but everyone has their own preferences.

Why not try half the batch at 350 and the other half at 425 to see which produces the kind of crispness you want....

Is this a roll out sugar cookie, @mormel20 ? If so, I think 425 is too high. But I also think 350 is too low. I usually bake cookies at 375, and always flip the trays half-way through the baking.

Where did you get the recipe? I think 425 is way too high. Could be a typo.

Those creating recipes have a reason for everything. I'd go with what they say for at least one batch and go from there. It's not a typical cookie baking temp but I'm sure there's a reason they specify it.
I almost always follow the recipe as created the first time and then modify it later if need be.

I would bake 2 or 3 cookies and see how they taste

I won't post a link, but the Food Network website talks about this. Here's a paragraph about it:
The most-variable aspect of the cookie baking process, however, is the oven temperature. There is much contention over the best temperature at which to bake your chocolate chip cookies, but it all boils down to preference. Cookie temperatures fluctuate, with some recipes as low as 300 degrees Fahrenheit, and a few as high as 425 degrees Fahrenheit, but most recipes land on 375 or 350 to evenly bake the entirety of the cookie. A lower temperature will require more cooking time and will ultimately result in a thinner, crisper chocolate chip cookie. For those ooey, gooey chocolate chip cookies, 375 degrees Fahrenheit is your sweet spot. It’s the perfect temperature to ensure super crispy exterior edges, while leaving the center slightly underdone and, thus, doughy and fudgey. If you’re feeling particularly bold, give 400 degrees Fahrenheit a go. This temperature will yield a puffier cookie with a crunchy exterior and delightfully soft center.
If it were me, I'd follow the recipe the first time, but keep a close eye on them, as they baked.

I would take into consideration the type of cookie it is and what the end result is supposed to be. Obviously this cookie is supposed to bake hot and fast for a reason.
