I do not understand why when there are numerous, never ending, cautions about using social security numbers as identification, that QVC requires that same number for account inquiry. This happened to me just a moment ago. I gave my QVC account number, then the representative wanted my social security number. I was inquiring about my balance as I had a return which should have reduced the balance amount. I wanted to pay my bill, but didn't want to pay the unreconciled amount. To discover how much I needed to pay I would have had to give up information that we are warned never to provide as identification.
The rep called me by name upon answering the call, which means they have caller id. Thus, they can identify me through my home phone number.
I believe this is an privacy intrusion, and wonder if others have had this issue with QVC.
