As @I am still oxox  said...it depends on where you live.    I never heard the word "freeway" until I moved to California.     In Chicago, it was "expressway", "interstate", "tri-state" or "toll road".

If the road was divided with a landscaped median, it was a "parkway" or a "boulevard".

And there is also the "skyway"...an 8 mile bridge connecting Illinois to Indiana...

@Desertdi That is regional not the was things are pronounced

@Desertdi

That's interesting!  When we moved from the Bay Area CA people here in Denver called freeways "highways".  Didn't know the rest of the country has different names for it too.

@rockygems

I lived in LA for 25 years...and we just called the freeways by their highway number most of the time...   the 10, the 101, the 405, etc.

@Desertdi   I do the same here in AZ...the 10, the 51, the 101/202

On the East Coast, it was always "highway."  I never heard the term "freeway" until I moved to Arizona.

@Desertdi   Here in NOLA we say "interstate" but when I lived in Ohio for a few years I learned to say "freeway."  When I moved back, had to switch back to "interstate." The landscaped median here is a "neutral ground."

It's people who don't read, don't listen well, and basically aren't very educated.  Which doesn't just mean by degrees or school time, it means reading, listening, observing, and caring about how you present yourself to others as an educated person.

Basically you have to read, listen, edit what you involve your time in, and care about who you are.

It doesn't bother or annoy me one bit when people speak with regional accents or regional slang. I find it interesting.

As they say People are perfectly imperfect.

As for the show last night...I watched for about 2 minutes and had to turn the channel. It was just boring and I like Home Shows.
