1) There are many hot lights and a lot of electrical equipment that shouldn't overheat.
2) Some people are cold ALL the time, some people are too warm ALL the time, and others are in between. It's logical that the hosts who are usually cold anywhere and everywhere would complain about the studio being cold.
I have spent my life working in offices with people who were ALWAYS "freezing" even when it was 90 degrees outside and everyone else was sweating.

Mary, I came to Minneapolis because of the cold. I figured if I was frozen I'd keep better.
@GATORGIRL I remember that episode! I guess that's what gave me the idea. I live in Phoenix, by the way............di

@GATORGIRL I was just thinking of that scene. I loved MTM show. I remember watching every week. I wanted to be just like her.

All businesses with heavy-duty electronics and computers are kept very cold. I guess they generate a lot of heat and must be kept comfortable or they'll crash.

@sparklestar Della Street (Perry Mason) was my role model. I actually did become a legal secretary. Found out it wasn't so glamorous.....and ended up doing something entirely different. Not so much fun, either......WORK is WORK.

Who knows if it actually is... but saying it is gives them a reason to try to feed viewers that steady diet of throws, coats, jackets, sweaters and space heaters...

Uh, but @Kachina624... that seems to happen with regularity anyway...

This is the same effect your talent will experience, to a lesser degree, when working under the lights. So, how cold should it be? It should be cold enough that the talent doesn't sweat. An ideal temperature is at least 68° F for extended periods, but it is not unusual to find studio temperatures as much as 4° F lower. If there is an audience, those audience members can feel uncomfortably cold.
The above is an excerpt from this semi-techinal (but interesting and understandable) article: http://www.tvtechnology.com/miscellaneous/0008/tv-production-spaces-ventilation-systems/259888

The cold issue: reminds me of how cold hospital operating rooms are kept...because of the equipment. Love the warm blanket they cover you with though !
