Why do site maintenancy right before St. Patricks Day??

Okay - this has been going on all day. It's quarter to midnight and every time I try to do something on the site, I get the maintenance message. Why??? Why????? Why???? This is very annoying and should not have been started today unless there was some outrageous new problem.
