Going to an informal engagement gathering next week at the home of

the bride to be’s mother. Not sure what is appropriate as far as a gift.

A card & flowers, a bottle of wine, just a card?? Suggestions. Thanks.

Wow, Im really out of touch (thank goodness).  Im not sure what an engagement gathering is or why you would need to take a gift.   Is it a new term for an old fashion bridal shower?

I like the card and flowers idea, or a nice picture frame. Keep it small, if you bring a gift at all.

What is your relation to the future bride and/ or groom? I would guess most guests will not bring a gift.

Small gifts for the couple to celebrate & enjoy now.Such as: bottle of bubbly, pair of champagne flutes, flower arrangement.

Re: Thoughts please!

I am really out of touch because I have never heard of an engagement gathering.  I think that I would just take a gift card and see if anyone else brings presents.  I thought presents were for showers.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

This is what I do in these situations. Put a bottle of wine or a nice candle you like in the car. Take a card in the house if others have gifts go back out to your car and bring one you choose in and take the other home and enjoy it. Works ever time for me. 😂😂😂😂😈

I wouldn't take stuff.  I'd take a card and a gift card to a restaurant.  I wouldn't take stuff until I buy a shower or wedding gift.

@Patz822 My niece had an engagement party. Here are some of the gifts I can remember

Quite a few bottles of wine

A box of chocolate covered strawberries

A cute mesh bag filled with personalized M&Ms

Someone made a basket filled with chocolate goodies (bride/groom are chocoholics)

A wedding journal

I remember personalized coffee mugs filled with truffles

A personalized digital picture frame

they also received gift cards and money.

so now we have first a gathering and then an engagement party to be followed by the shower and a wedding????  or do couples pick and choose from among the choices?
